• Job Title: Social Worker - LPCC (Newark Campus) Department: Newark | General The Mental Health Counselor provides short-term counseling for enrolled Ohio State Newark and Central Ohio Technical College students being able to offer in-person treatment or telehealth services by request.
• This person will be responsible for completing clinical intakes, engaging students in counseling sessions, triage appointments, the ability to assess a student for safety during a crisis, provide diagnostic information to the student or other offices as necessary, engage students struggling with mental health disorders or drug and alcohol use disorders through evidence based treatment modalities, and create referrals as needed on and off campus for other services such as long-term counseling, medication management, or further psychological testing.
• The position requires the ability to complete and maintain timely documentation of clinical services through an electronic database, as well as completion of documentation that might be needed to support accommodations offered by Disability Services as necessary.
• This position will require the ability to engage in various outreach events including presentations to student groups and classrooms on mental health topics or drug and alcohol issues.
• Primary office is located on the Newark campus, with occasional travel to other regional campuses for COTC.
• Work from home hours can be considered and negotiated but will vary semester to semester depending on student needs.
• Minimum Required Qualifications: Master's Degree in Social Work.
• State of Ohio Social Work licensure (LSW).
• 0 years of relevant experience required.
• 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Desired Qualifications: Master’s degree with a licensure in counseling or social work, holding an LPC, LPCC, LPCC-S or LSW, LISW, or LISW-S.
• The candidate needs to be in good standing with the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board holding an active counselor or social worker license.
• Previous experience working in community mental health, higher education, and/or with diverse populations is an asset.
• Must maintain licensure through regular CEU’s every two years or licensure cycle.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a mental health counselor and diagnosing mental health and drug and alcohol use disorders.
• Must be able to accurately assess the mental health needs of students, make diagnoses when applicable, provide treatment, and have a general knowledge of additional resources on and off campus to support students with continuity of care including their ability to succeed academically.
• Be able to complete intakes, use screening tools, utilize observation, and connect students to other psychological testing as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must possess sensitivity and understanding of diversity.
• The position requires an individual to work independently while also being able to work within a team format.

Responsibilities

Responsibility/Duty: Mental health intakes, counseling, crisis assessment, diagnosing mental health disorders or drug and alcohol use disorders, and short-term triage appointments. Responsibility/Duty: Completion of documentation and entry of intakes, notes, triages, crisis appointments, termination summaries, as well as adding attachments into the electronic data base. Providing students with mental health screens as needed to support and create diagnostic impressions. Documentation created to support accommodations sought through Disability Services via a letter which would include diagnostic impressions. Miscellaneous documentation requested at times for instructors, other providers, or potentially by a court of law through a release of information. Tabling events highlighting services offered through the counseling department or student life, workshops, or presentations on mental health topics to classrooms or student groups, occasional event involvement such as having a suicide prevention speaker to campus, helping to coordinate the annual suicide prevention walk or other mental health related events that require planning and development. Attend trainings for continuing education, contribute and help with other events sponsored by the Student Life Department such as the Week of Welcome. Support other areas such as Career Services, Disability Services, Sports Recreation and Wellness, and student programming as additional volunteers for events.

Certifications

Not required, but certifications within specialty areas of counseling will be considered.
