The Tennis Professional provides lessons to students of various ages and skill levels while developing tailored training programs. They are also responsible for managing ALTA/USTA practices and maintaining tennis court facilities and equipment.
A bachelor's degree in Physical Education or Sports Management is preferred, along with proven experience as a tennis instructor. Certification from USPTA or PTR is advantageous, and CPR certification is required within 30 days of employment.
This position must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values and objectives established by the Metropolitan Atlanta YMCA, Branch Strategic Plan, Safety Protocols Including COVID, and Member Services Guidelines and Non-Negotiables. Emphasis will be placed on member service, program knowledge, member/staff safety, and communication with members and staff. Implements the YMCA safety protocols both related to COVID and branch operations. Implement wellness checks and provide a leadership role in ensuring member/staff adherence to the safety protocols, with a commitment to positive member and staff safety. Assisting students in developing and improving various tennis skills. Assessing students’ tennis skills to determine areas in need of improvement. Coordinating and conducting individual and group tennis lessons. Developing suitable training programs for students based on their age, objectives and individual skill sets. Developing innovative ways to assist beginner or younger students in learning and remembering the rules of the game. Identifying the learning styles that work best for each student and adapting all coaching methods accordingly. Providing a secure and productive learning environment for students. Scheduling meetings with students’ parents or guardians to discuss their progress. Attending students’ tennis matches, competitions and tournaments as required. Create and manage curriculum for ALTA/USTA practices. Evaluate and place new members on ALTA/USTA teams to grow member involvement in tennis. Maintain tennis court facilities and equipment in accordance with Risk Management’s policies as directed. Maintain and assist with court maintenance as directed. Record and report schedules and rosters for adult tennis programming and assist with ensuring payments are collected. Effect ON END RESULT: This position has a primary impact on the overall effectiveness of the Tennis department and the success of services to the community. The effectiveness of this position is primarily measured by the stated satisfaction of members and ensuring a safe, clean, controlled and fun environment in accordance with the Metro Atlanta YMCA Sports Philosophy.
