Job description

As an Education Therapist you will play a critical role in transforming lives and helping individuals regain their independence and quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • The Educational Therapist employs academic courses of study and methods to enhance patient academic levels. Work is full time during the weekdays with some overtime. Work is performed at the clinic with occasional work in the community or residential site.
  • Tests and evaluates patients using formal and informal methods. Requires visual and auditory ability to administer tests.
  • Develops and implements individual educational goals and treatment plans for assigned patients using subjects and teaching methods most suitable to the patient's capabilities and interests. Employs academic courses of study and methods to enhance academic levels. Reviews and revises programs as deemed necessary. Requires ability to make decisions based on patients' needs. Must be able to evaluate situations as they occur and act upon the best solution for the good of staff, patients, and self. Must have proficiency in academic subjects and be able to communicate effectively in order to teach patients in such areas.
  • Attends and reports verbally or in writing in conferences, staffing, and other meetings to inform necessary personnel, insurance carriers and patients' families of patient testing, treatment, and progress. Prepares conference summaries/reports for each assigned patient as needed per month. Requires the verbal, visual ability and fine motor manipulation to dictate and review/edit reports.

Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • Teaching Credential, preferably in Special Education is preferred.
  • Experience in rehabilitation or with individuals with brain injuries or developmental disabilities is preferred.
