Job description

  • Adjunct Faculty Foundations of Writing and Communication Department of Education and Professional Studies UMGC Stateside Location: Travis AFB, California University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Travis AFB, California, for the Writing program.
  • Specifically, the following course(s): Foundations of Writing and Communication (WRTG 111): The first course in the two-course series WRTG 111 - WRTG 112.
  • Fulfills the general education requirement in communications.
  • An introduction to essential skills in reading, writing, and speaking for academic and professional contexts.
  • The goal is to develop proficiency in creating and analyzing different types of communication, including written, spoken, visual, and multimodal formats, while connecting ideas with others perspectives.
  • Topics include integrating sources with attribution, exploring ethical and effective use of AI in communication, and making rhetorical choices to achieve clarity and audience engagement.
  • Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: WRTG 100A, WRTG 111, or WRTG 111X.
  • Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree in English or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in English or related field.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • This position is specifically to teach on-site at Travis AFB, California.
  • Preferred Education and Experience Terminal degree in English or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Materials needed for submission Resume/Curriculum Vitae Cover letter highly preferred If selected, candidates with international degrees may be required to submit a translation/degree evaluation from a NACES approved vendor.

  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
