Overview The Sports Instructor ensures an organized, safe, and impactful sports program operation for all participants. The Instructor will assist with the planning, leading, and supervision of youth and adult sports including practices, clinics, and games. Plan, lead, and supervise assigned youth and adult sport practices, clinics, and games Prepare sports fields and courts for use including equipment set up and breakdown Maintain all sports equipment used by the sports department Maintain a safe environment ensuring playing areas are suitable for game play Ensure a safe program operation for all participants Provide continual instruction and supervision of group and serve as a leader Serve as score keeper for assigned games Attend and actively participate in assigned staff meetings Maintain a positive relationship with staff, participants, volunteer coaches, and parents Track attendance of participants in games, clinics, and practices and maintain records Follow YMCA standards, procedures, guidelines, objectives and goals Demonstrate enthusiasm in all phases of work with participants Ensure effective communication with parents, colleagues, volunteers, and participants Instill, teach and model YMCA values at all times Other duties as assigned
Must be 18 years of age or older Minimum of 6+ month’s experience in organized youth and adult sports Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform job related tasks Must have visual, physical, and auditory ability to act swiftly in emergency situations Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross American Heart Association American Safety & Health Institute YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. You do not need to disclose your criminal history or participate in a background check until a conditional job offer is made to you. After making a conditional offer and running a background check, if the YMCA is concerned about conviction that is directly related to the job, you will be given the opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding the conviction, provide mitigating evidence, or challenge the accuracy of the background report.
