About the role

The Substitute Teacher provides instructional continuity by implementing lesson plans and maintaining a productive learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher. They are responsible for upholding Catholic values and ensuring student safety and well-being across various grade levels.

Job summary

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instructional continuity in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role involves implementing lesson plans, maintaining a positive and productive learning environment, supporting student achievement, and upholding the mission and values of Catholic education. The Substitute Teacher works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure a safe, respectful, and engaging educational experience for all students.

Job responsibilities

Implement lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher.

Maintain a structured, positive, and respectful classroom environment that supports student learning.

Reinforce classroom routines, school policies, and behavioral expectations.

Provide instruction and support to students across a variety of grade levels and learning needs.

Collaborate professionally with teachers, specialists, and other school personnel to ensure continuity of instruction.

Communicate effectively and professionally with administrators regarding classroom activities, student needs, and any concerns.

Uphold and model Catholic values, fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and compassion.

Ensure student safety, supervision, and well-being throughout the school day and during all assigned duties.

Adapt to different classroom settings and instructional needs as assigned.

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff.

Job requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Previous teaching, substitute teaching, or coursework in education preferred.

Ability to effectively manage classrooms and engage students across multiple grade levels (K–8).

Strong classroom management, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, and professionalism.

Commitment to supporting the mission, values, and educational philosophy of Catholic education.
