Provides individualized breastfeeding education, demonstrations, and clinical assistance to mothers and infants before, during, and after hospital stays. Manages lactation equipment rentals, retail accessories, and collaborates on program policies and staff training.
Requires an Associate's Degree and a valid Registered Nurse license from the Ohio Board of Nursing. Preferred qualifications include IBCLC or CLC certifications and three years of clinical experience in a perinatal setting.
Summary: This position participates in the development and implementation of lactation services which may include: clinical, rental and retail services. They are responsible for the provision of patient care through individualized consultation, telephone help line. Responsibilities And Duties: 80% Provides education, demonstration and assistance with the correction of breastfeeding problems for mothers and infants, beyond the scope of normal nursing care, during individualized sessions before, during or after the hospital stay. May be asked to perform staff registered nurse duties. 8% Maintains equipment, supplies and educational material needed for patient care. Coordinates breast pumps and retail accessories - rental and sales. 5% May provides prenatal and post discharge classes and support for breastfeeding mothers. Participates in education and training of other Lactation Nurse 2% Collaborates in writing policies, procedures, standards and educational materials for Lactation Program and is responsible for maintaining the continuum of care with Lactation Consultant 3% Engages in continuing education for self-development and growth. Remains current on all necessary information. Attends workshops, educational meetings and conferences. Reads current related obstetric, pediatric and lactation literature. 2% May participates in research, planning and application for CEU's and implements in-services for staff for breastfeeding information. Desirable qualifications include obtaining Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Professional certification as International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with three years in a clinical setting.
