About the role

The Assistant Coach is responsible for teaching soccer fundamentals, planning engaging practices, and implementing game strategies for the JV Girls Soccer program. They must foster a positive team culture and serve as a role model for student-athletes while coordinating with the head coach and athletic director.

Assistant Coach for JV Girls Soccer

Westtown seeks an experienced Assistant Coach for the JV Girls Soccer program. The fall coaching season runs from September 8 through November 6, 2026. This is a part-time, afternoon position compensated with a stipend.

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, Westtown coaches foster a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture that supports student-athletes' development both on and off the field of play. Westtown coaches are responsible for teaching sport-specific fundamentals and advanced skills, planning and leading organized and engaging practices, and implementing effective game strategies that promote individual growth and team success.

Successful coaches serve as teachers and role models, inspiring student-athletes to pursue a high level of success while emphasizing sportsmanship, self-discipline, resilience, self-confidence, and a healthy perspective on competition and teamwork. Through their leadership, coaches cultivate pride in personal and team accomplishments and help students develop habits and values that extend beyond athletics. Westtown coaches promote the values of Westtown School and the Friends Schools League by consistently modeling integrity, respect, inclusion, and professionalism, while upholding community expectations for conduct and character.

Westtown School is a Quaker independent Pre-K to 12, college-preparatory day and boarding school located on a beautiful 600-acre campus in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. Guided by Quaker values, Westtown School inspires and prepares our students to become stewards and leaders of a better world.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Observe and promote the rules of Westtown School, the FSL, and PAISAA
  • Remain current with sport theories and techniques
  • Attend all coaches' meetings
  • Evaluate players and assist with selecting the team
  • Create a safe, structured, and motivating environment
  • Assist with planning and implementing engaging daily practices
  • Be responsible for team equipment and uniforms
  • Assist with team discipline
  • Coordinate appropriate and regular communication with student-athletes and parents
  • Follow school procedures regarding transportation, injuries, participation, and meals
  • Report and follow up with the athletic trainer regarding injuries
  • Assist with the writing of individual comments for each student-athlete
  • Collaborate with the head coach and student manager
  • Keep the scorebook current and available
  • Report areas of concern immediately to the Athletic Directors: fields, transportation, facilities, opposing teams, student behavior, parent issues, etc.

Qualifications

  • Prior coaching experience required
  • Prior experience playing high school or college soccer is preferred
  • Experience working with high school-aged students
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • A positive student-centered approach to coaching
  • Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, trainers, and other community members
  • Ability to effectively manage and support athletes at the appropriate level
  • Demonstrated technical, theoretical, and applied knowledge of the sport
  • CPR and first aid certified
  • Valid driver's license

Requirements
