Job description

Role Mission

As a Spanish Language and English Language Learner (Spanish/ ELL) Teacher, your mission is to ensure that every student acquires the academic and language skills needed to succeed in college and beyond. This role is “hybrid-by-design”—you could expect to teach 2 to 3 sections of Spanish as a foreign language on a daily basis while also having 2 or 3 instructional period reserved to support English Language Learner students who speak Spanish as a native language. In this role, you will set ambitious language acquisition and academic goals for students, engage families in their child's progress, and create a classroom environment conducive to language development. All IDEA teachers set ambitious goals for student achievement and invest students and families in accomplishing them; create a powerful learning environment; plan and deliver purposeful, rigorous instruction; assess for mastery and track student progress toward goals; analyze data to intervene and adjust instruction; and seek excellence as an educator and an IDEA team member.

What We Offer

Compensation: The starting teacher salary for 0 years of experience is $51,500, with increased compensation commensurate with experience and advanced degree attainment. This role is eligible for various stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500-$4,000 each. Additional hourly compensation is provided for leading approved after-school tutoring or Saturday school if applicable. Other Benefits: We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering the majority of the employee premium for the base medical plan and subsidizing the majority of costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Some of the special benefits we offer at IDEA include: Paid Family Leave: Eligible staff may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, based on their tenure with the organization and caregiver designation. Tuition Reimbursement: Staff members may apply for up to​ 50% of tuition paid toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 maximum per year subject to manager discretion and budget availability. Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions within a year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services available at no cost. Other benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, flexible spending account options, generous vacation time, referral bonuses, professional development, and an optional 403(b) plan. Teachers in the State of Ohio participate in the State Teacher Retirement System (STRS). Qualifications

High level of content-area proficiency as evidenced by teaching certification, field of study, or work-experience Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution required Experience: Experience in a K-12 classroom setting strongly preferred Licenses or Certifications: Existing Ohio professional teacher certification preferred but not required. Non-traditional candidates can receive support applying for alternative educator licensure and/or long-term substitute licensure with no impact on compensation or benefits eligibility in the role. Knowledge and Skills: Expert-level knowledge of core academic subject(s) assigned Knowledge of pedagogical best practices, curriculum, and instruction Strong ability to build student engagement and manage student behavior through positive reinforcement, restorative practices, and least invasive techniques Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment What You’ll Do -- Accountabilities

Responsibilities

Implement state learning standards and IDEA curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations Learn, master, and deliver relevant content and grade-level curriculum, core content objectives and texts Submit weekly content plans for feedback Receive and respond professionally to feedback aligned to the Guideposts for Excellent Teaching, IDEA’s rubric defining best practices related to lesson preparation and execution, culture, responsiveness to student data, and professionalism beyond the classroom Maintain a “Common Board” configuration that highlights key components of your daily lesson(s) Implement formative and summative assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning needs, adjust content plans accordingly, and update gradebook weekly Communicate students’ progress with students and families on a weekly basis Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work-related tasks Execute classroom-level implementation of the school’s clear and consistent behavior management system that develops students’ character and sense of community in the classroom Lead the classroom-level implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, identifying and documenting student learning and conduct needs, documenting evidence-based interventions, analyzing student data, and collaborating with the school-level MTSS Team to support students’ growth and development. Report student learning trends via school-level mechanisms including: Exit Ticket Trackers, Data Huddles, Data Boards, and Student Work Analysis Meetings. Help shape and support a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding and respect for the communities in which they identify Participate in weekly 30-minute manager check-ins (with Principal or Assistant Principal), grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, weekly professional development and school-wide meetings and functions Engage in summer and year-long district, school and personal learning and development Lead parent-teacher conferences during designated times that may include additional after-school time commitments Support student health and nutrition by tracking compliance with classroom participation in IDEA Greater Cincinnati’s universal “Supper” and breakfast programs, as applicable Expect a minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week Additional responsibilities may include: after-school tutoring or Saturday school opportunities based on the needs of our scholars (with the opportunity to earn additional compensation).
