Position Summary: And responsibilities

Math and Science teachers at GLA build thinking classrooms where scholars are encouraged to be curious, ask meaningful questions, investigate concepts, and solve authentic, real-world problems. Through rigorous, inquiry-based instruction, teachers foster critical thinking, collaboration, scientific reasoning, and mathematical problem-solving skills that prepare scholars to become innovative global leaders.

The Middle School Math & Science Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

Design and deliver rigorous, PA Core Standards-aligned mathematics lessons based on the Standards for Mathematical Practice and mathematical content.

Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned science instruction that promotes inquiry, scientific investigation, hands-on learning, and real-world application.

Develop interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate mathematical reasoning and scientific concepts whenever appropriate.

Plan and prepare units, daily lesson plans, classroom activities, laboratory investigations, projects, and instructional materials aligned to curriculum standards.

Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for lessons, units, projects, and assessments.

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of all scholars.

Create a safe, respectful, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes curiosity and academic excellence.

Work effectively with scholars in whole-group, small-group, and individualized instructional settings.

Monitor, assess, and evaluate student academic progress using multiple forms of assessment and instructional data.

Provide timely, meaningful feedback on assignments, projects, laboratory activities, assessments, and classwork to ensure scholar mastery.

Maintain positive and collaborative relationships with scholars, families, colleagues, and school leadership.

Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, assignments, classroom expectations, school events, and individual scholar needs, including participation in scheduled parent conferences.

Participate in professional development, educational conferences, faculty meetings, and collaborative planning sessions to strengthen instructional practice.

Support the school's mission by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and global awareness through mathematics and science instruction.

Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO, Principal, or Academy Leader.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty exceptionally. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Education and/Or experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Education, Mathematics, Science, Mathematics Education, Science Education, or a related field required.
  • Previous middle school teaching experience is preferred.

Certificates and/Or licenses

Preferred candidates will possess a valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate appropriate for middle school instruction in Mathematics, Science, or Grades 4–8. Candidates eligible for certification or actively pursuing certification may also be considered.

Professional demeanor and characteristics

Ability to demonstrate initiative, leadership, collaboration, creativity, and independent thinking. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence when working with scholars, families, colleagues, and community partners. Demonstrated commitment to educational equity, culturally responsive teaching, continuous improvement, and the mission and vision of Global Leadership Academy Schools.

Compensation

Initial salary offers for this position range from $47,000 – $75,000. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience and attained education.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in education or mathematics education is required. A current teaching license for grades 4-8 Math is preferred.
