The RN Patient Educator manages the patient education process, including protocol identification, dosage establishment, and teaching treatment regimes. They ensure quality and continuity of care through the management of protocol requirements and precertification.

Summary

  • The RN - Patient Educator is responsible for the patient education process involving identification of protocol, management of protocol requirements, precertification, establishment of dosages, and the patient teaching on treatment regimes. The Patient Educator has an additional level of advancement based upon the obtainment of certain competencies that allow the individual expanded functionality within the department. These functions will be carried out in order to ensure quality and continuity of patient care. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role.

  • Experience: Degree in Nursing, BSN preferred. One year of Critical Care, Oncology, Neonatal, or L&D experience preferred.
  • License /
  • Certification: RN license required,
  • BLS required, additional speciality certification required:
  • Oncology: ACLS required within 6 months, Chemo/Biotherapy certification required within 6 months, National Chemo certification required within 2 years of hire
  • Neonatal/Women's &
  • Baby: NRP required within 6 months,
  • IBCLC required within 2 years of hire

  • Ability to observe, assesses, and record work, safety and infection control standards.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Position requires sitting for 20% of the workday and mobility 80% of the workday. There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action. Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds. There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person. Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range. Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels. Much exposure to computer work. Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock. Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Occasional exposure to radiation.
