Job description

  • Spanish Teacher - Upper School | Trinity Valley School Trinity Valley School seeks a Spanish teacher who understands that language is never just grammar and vocabulary; it is a living bridge between people, histories, and ways of being in the world.
  • If you are someone who finds joy in helping a student unlock meaning in another language, who believes that education should open minds as much as it opens doors, and who is ready to join a community deeply committed to knowing and valuing each student as a whole person, we invite you to consider this opportunity.
  • Trinity Valley School is a Pre-K through 12 independent school where students are known, challenged, and supported as they become thoughtful, capable adults.
  • Our upper school community-roughly 350 students in grades 9–12-is characterized by genuine intellectual engagement, a real commitment to honor and integrity, and a culture where students feel genuinely seen and valued.
  • We are seeking a Spanish teacher to join our World Languages department and help shape the linguistic and cultural fluency of our students.

About the Role

You will be stepping into an established program with strong institutional support, engaged families, and students who are already excited about language learning. You will work alongside colleagues who are equally invested, who think carefully about how students learn, and who view teaching as a continuous practice of reflection and growth. The Spanish program at Trinity Valley is not isolated within a single department-it connects naturally to our Global Education initiatives, our Trojan Outdoor Experience, our commitment to equity and inclusion, and our broader mission to develop students of fine scholarship, wide constructive interests, intelligent citizenship, and spiritual and moral development. Your work will directly serve all four of these core objectives. Your days will be full and varied. You will teach Spanish I and Spanish III, working with students at different stages of language acquisition and helping each group develop not just competence but genuine enthusiasm for the language. You will design lessons that bring Spanish-speaking cultures to life-whether through literature, film, current events, or community connections-helping students appreciate the rich and distinct traditions of Spanish-speaking countries. Beyond the classroom, you will serve as an advisor to a group of 10–12 students, meeting with them regularly to support their academic progress, listen to their concerns, and help them navigate the social and emotional landscape of upper school life. You will also engage in campus life-perhaps leading a Spanish club, attending school events, or supporting our commitment to community through your presence and participation. You will collaborate regularly with your colleagues in the World Languages department and across disciplines, sharing ideas about how language learning connects to history, literature, science, and social studies. You will attend faculty meetings, participate in professional development, and contribute to the ongoing work of making Trinity Valley a place where every student feels honored and included. This is not a job that happens only during class periods; it is a role that invites you into the full life of the school. Who You Are You are someone who creates conditions where understanding can emerge, possessing a genuine passion for adolescents and their unique complexities. As a creative instructional designer, you recognize that students learn differently and adapt your approach to ensure every student is known, challenged, and supported. You understand that language is inseparable from culture, and you have the knowledge and curiosity to help students see Spanish-speaking societies in their full humanity and diversity as places with their own histories, struggles, innovations, and contributions to the world. You have formal training in Spanish (ideally a master's degree or equivalent credentials) and meaningful teaching experience, preferably in an independent school setting where you have worked with students who are developing their language skills from the ground up. You are comfortable with using technology thoughtfully to enhance and deepen learning, whether through virtual exchanges with partner schools, digital storytelling projects, or platforms that support personalized learning. You balance high expectations with genuine care-you push students to grow while also meeting them where they are, and you create classroom environments where it is safe to make mistakes because mistakes are understood as part of learning. You are collaborative by nature, eager to learn from colleagues, and genuinely interested in how your work connects to the broader mission of the school. You are deeply committed to equity and inclusion, actively creating spaces where students from all backgrounds feel welcomed and valued. With personal and professional integrity, you model our honor code values of trust and decency while continuing to grow as a teacher-scholar through ongoing reflection and pedagogical study. Trinity Valley School is built on the belief that education should prepare students not just for college but for lives of purpose, curiosity, and integrity. Every role in our community contributes to that mission, and the Spanish teacher's role is vital- helping students develop a skill and a mindset that will serve them for decades, opening doors to careers, friendships, and understanding that they cannot yet imagine. If this vision resonates with you, if you are energized by the prospect of building relationships with adolescents, designing engaging lessons, and being part of a school community that genuinely cares about the whole child, we would love to hear from you. Physical Demands & Work Conditions This role involves standing and walking around the classroom for most of the working day as you engage with students, facilitate discussion, and create an active learning environment. The position takes place in a climate-controlled indoor environment with air conditioning, providing a comfortable setting for both teaching and learning. While the role may occasionally include outdoor activities-such as cultural celebrations or field-based learning experiences-these are not regular requirements of the position. Standard working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Like all members of the Trinity Valley community, you may be asked to participate in occasional evening and weekend commitments related to school events, performances, or community gatherings. These occasions are part of what it means to be a full member of our school community, and they offer meaningful opportunities to connect with students and families in contexts beyond the classroom. Trinity Valley School is an equal-opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any qualified employee or applicant due to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, mental or physical disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected category.
