The Healthcare Instructor is responsible for managing the certification process for students in the Healthcare Pathway, including instruction and certification for various healthcare credentials. They also provide feedback on student progress and ensure a supportive learning environment.
Candidates must have a valid Train-The-Trainer licensure in Ohio or be eligible to obtain it, along with certification as an Instructor by the National Healthcareer Association. A commitment to the organization's mission and exceptional interpersonal skills are also required.
Description Job Purpose The Healthcare Instructor will manage the certification process of students seeking one or more of the short-term, stackable credentials offered in the Healthcare Pathway. The Healthcare Instructor will be primarily responsible for student instruction and certifications from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and/or the nurse assisting certification (STNA) from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). This includes maintaining all documentation as well as appropriately registering, filing, and submitting all steps necessary to complete the certification process. The Healthcare Instructor will also provide appropriate modeling and instruction of employability / soft skills necessary to attain and retain employment.
Primary job duties and responsibilities: Uses various proprietary or teacher made materials, provides instruction on basic and relevant medical terminology specific to the certification (s) being taught. Provides instruction and skill development for students to achieve Nationally Recognized Industry Credentials from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) in the following areas: Phlebotomy Technician EKG Technician Certified Patient Care Technician Clinical Medical Assistant Provides instruction and skill development for students to achieve the nurse assistant certification (STNA) using the curricula from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). Ensures all equipment and materials are in good repair and report any maintenance, safety and/or sanitation issues immediately. Ensures an adequate amount of teaching supplies, including proper storage and security of phlebotomy supplies. Periodically evaluates students learning and provides specific, accurate, and substantive feedback as to each student’s progress. Prepares progress reports and report cards as required by school policy or law. Provides a supportive and optimistic learning environment in which students are actively engaged in learning. Coordinates with Intervention Specialists to identify students who require learning accommodations. Appropriately incorporates those accommodations into all instructional activities and testing with regards to the individual’s dignity, respect, and privacy. Establishes professional rapport with students by demonstrating their worth and dignity while communicating responsibility and citizenship expectations. Attends and participates in staff meetings, committees and scheduled training as required. Completes required documentation and responds to specific internal informational requests in a timely and complete manner. Maintains standards of appropriate behavior through fair and just progressive corrective actions Refer formal disciplinary issues to counselors and/or administrators for disposition. Maintains a detailed tracking system and completes all steps of certification processes ultimately resulting in the participants receiving their credential in a timely manner. Maintains professional certification and/or licensure through ongoing training and education as needed. Stays up to date with NHA program requirements and resources.
