The Afterschool Counselor implements program curriculum and designs daily activity plans to stimulate the mind and body of school-aged children. They are responsible for supervising the classroom, maintaining records, and communicating child progress to parents.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma and obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within 30 days of hire. Previous experience working with children in developmental settings and with diverse populations is preferred.

Provides direction for the program, classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Implements curriculum within the established guidelines. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Ensures parents are kept informed of all site and program activities and communicates both positive and negative behavior of children to parents. Maintains program site and equipment. Maintains required program records including attendance sheets, incident sheets, and behavior reports. Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training. CPR & First Aid – Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives. Emergency Response – Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures. Incident Management – Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors. Safe Environment – Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants. Physical Readiness – Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities. Compliance – Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.
