The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in managing daily classroom operations and providing high-quality childcare. Responsibilities include supervising children, implementing lesson plans, and maintaining a positive group atmosphere according to regulations.
Candidates must have an Associate degree or higher in early childhood education and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. A minimum of two years of experience working with diverse groups of young children and required background clearances are also mandatory.
The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is seeking a Assistant Teacher for our Pre-K Counts program. The Assistant Teacher assists the Lead Teacher in managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. In addition, the Assistant Teacher provides high quality childcare through safe and attentive supervision which includes the implementation of approved lesson plans and age-appropriate activities throughout the day as planned by the Lead Teacher.
Full Time - M-F, 9am - 5pm $18/hour Year round position Key Responsibilities: Provide direct supervision of children in the assigned classroom. Maintain classroom according to DPW regulations and communicates effectively wit the children and fellow staff to assure a positive and pleasant group atmosphere. Follow established emergency and accident procedures and provide an immediate response to quickly comfort children in distress. Communicate directly with the children, encouraging and guiding them in age-appropriate activities providing regular and meaningful interaction. Assist with attendance and other records as required. Attend trainings and maintain any and all certifications. Position Requirements: Associates degree or higher in early childhood education Must have Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Minimum of two (2) years experience working with diverse groups of young children. Thorough understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods. Ability to be mentally alert and observant at all times when responsible for children. Ability to speak and read clearly to communicate easily with children under care with knowledge of language development and understanding.
