We are seeking a Temporary Part Time Campus Safety Officer II who will be expected to provide for the safety of students, faculty, staff; and to protect/secure University grounds, buildings, and parking facilities against theft, illegal entry, and damage.
Demonstrate quick and decisive responses to incidents.
Assist training other Campus Safety Officers.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ● Serves as a deterrent to a criminal event and conduct as a protector of the campus community. ● Enforces all University rules, regulations and policies as well as assisting with assisting with similar actions regarding local, state and federal laws. ● Maintains high visibility and patrols buildings, grounds and parking facilities to secure and protect University property. ● Responds to any emergency and assists all responding emergency services personnel during their respective responses; responds to all other incidents, complaints, alarms, fires, vehicle crashes, disturbances, assaults, robberies as well as any other requests for service on the relevant campuses. ● Files reports for all crimes, rules and policy violations, damage to property, suspicious activity, miscellaneous problems, or any other unusual incident or occurrence. ● Monitors and assists with traffic and parking rules and regulations violations; which may include the movement of vehicles within restricted area(s); may direct traffic as required. ● Maintain communications contact between officers, supervisors and communications base while on duty via two-way radio, cellular telephone or other as approved and may be necessary. ● Locks and unlocks all facilities and activates or deactivates alarms as scheduled and/or instructed.

OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS ● Reviews all reports, emails, messages, notices and directives from all previous shifts; receives briefing from shift supervisor; reviews current campus calendar and activities, and all other pertinent documents and information at the beginning of each shift. ● Conduct field investigations, follow-up investigations, interviews as directed/required and complete detailed reports which reflect the results of those actions that would be capable of fully informing relevant other campus departments/personnel of information which may be utilized for the betterment and service of the campus community. ● Is fully knowledgeable of all campus buildings, departments, functions, and grounds. ● Maintains a proper personal appearance at all times when on duty.
Standards include neatly trimmed hair and facial hair and proper hygiene. ● Maintains all quality and professional standards within the Campus Safety department.
Reports any standards not being met. ● Fill on a as needed basis, on various shifts and/or in four hour (minimum) blocks of time, scheduling vacancies of all types, as well as scheduling needs that may develop as a result of special events and other situations that may require additional personnel. ● Performs other duties as may be assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS Education High School graduate or GED required, Associate’s degree or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience 2+ years of experience working in law enforcement, security department or equivalent.
Higher education experience preferred Driving Requirements Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
A good driving record, as reported by the Department of Transportation, is essential.
Must hold, or be able to obtain, all applicable licenses required by governing authorities to operate a commercial vehicle.
Adheres to local and state laws, as well as brand and owner guidelines for driver certification and safe transport of guests.
No texting or use of cell phones while the vehicle is in motion.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ● Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills ● Comfort dealing with ambiguity and the ability to work independently ● Ability to make critical safety decisions independently when no supervisor is available ● Familiarity with preventive patrols, investigations, report writing, and community-oriented problem-solving interactions. ● Demonstrated an ability to calm situations. ● Demonstrated appropriate reactions to nuanced and/or escalating situations. ● Demonstrated quick and decisive responses to incidents. ● Demonstrated timely use of the department’s procedures and processes.
Licenses or Certifications Campus Safety Officer Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months from Virginia Department of Criminal Justices Service (DCJS), Basic First Aid and CPR preferred.

Special Knowledge Is fully knowledgeable and capable of all laws as they pertain to Campus Safety, such as the Clery Act, Title IX, and FERPA SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS ● Ability to stand or walk (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, etc.) ● Ability to climb stairs, ramps or ladders ● Ability to bend or twist waist, knees and neck to perform various duties ● Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds ● Ability to run as needed ● Be able to work outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods of time Please note that this role is in person based in Arlington, VA.

Compensation/Total Rewards The hourly rate for this position is $21.77.
