Position Summary

The Nursing Laboratory Educational Assistant collaborates with faculty to assist the undergraduate associate degree nursing students to develop nursing skills and clinical judgment in the nursing laboratory. The educational assistant schedules students to practice skills in an open lab, manages lab supplies, and remediates skills for students to meet learning outcomes. The nursing laboratory assistant plays a pivotal role in shaping the practical competence and professional development of future nurses, preparing them to deliver safe and effective patient care in clinical settings. Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Academic Division Director, Nursing the Nursing Laboratory Educational Assistant is accountable for effective performance in these essential functional areas:

Key responsibilities include

Assist with the facilitation, implementation, and evaluation of simulation activities and educational materials for all nursing courses in collaboration with nursing faculty. This may involve demonstrating procedures such as patient assessment, medication calculation acquisition for safe medication administration, wound care, and various nursing interventions. Collaborate with faculty to provide consistent and relevant student learning experiences to meet the course and laboratory learning outcomes. Facilitates student learning in the laboratory setting by coaching students to translate knowledge into the attitudes and skills required to give safe high-quality patient care. They serve as mentors to nursing students, offering encouragement, advice, and support as students navigate the challenges of learning clinical skills and preparing for their nursing careers. Review and provide feedback to students on assignments as needed. Facilitate the clinical experience in the nursing skills laboratory. Maintain and manage inventory of laboratory supplies for the skills nursing lab. Stay current with advances in nursing practice, technology, and educational methodologies to continually enhance the effectiveness of laboratory support and student learning outcomes. Support and implement CT-CCNP policies and procedures as appropriate in laboratory setting. Foster a learning environment that supports diversity and professionalism. Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Nursing with two (2) years of clinical nursing experience. An active CT license as a registered nurse. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Understanding of nursing simulation methodologies Demonstrated proficiency in guiding students through the bridge between theoretical knowledge and clinical application Ability to manage the operational complexities of a high-volume laboratory, including inventory oversight and policy implementation Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
