The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides instruction, case management, and assessments for students in grades 9-12 and postsecondary. They are responsible for developing and implementing IEPs while collaborating with parents and interdisciplinary teams.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education or a related field and possess a valid DHH certification. Experience in a school setting and knowledge of special education compliance are preferred.
Develop, implement, and assess individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities. Deliver instruction tailored to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students. Collaborate with parents, educators, and specialists to ensure a comprehensive approach to student learning and support. Monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies to improve outcomes. Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress to inform ongoing instruction and planning. Create a welcoming, safe, and productive classroom environment that encourages positive behavior and learning. Provide guidance and support to classroom staff in implementing educational strategies for students with special needs. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field Valid Georgia certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) or eligibility to obtain certification 1+ years of experience in a school setting preferred Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing Knowledge of IEP development and special education compliance Organizational and time management skills Proficient in use of technology Fingerprint background clearance Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications Physical Requirements Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.
