Journey Community Schools (JCS) is a Tennessee non-profit corporation serving scholars in grades kindergarten through 8th grade at our Coleman School, East Academy, and Northeast Academy campuses. Our Mission is to engage families and community partners in our scholars' learning journey; cultivate a safe, positive and joyous learning environment; and empower teachers and leaders with support to deliver an inclusive, innovative and rigorous education. The Opportunity

  • As a School Building Substitute at Journey Community Schools (JCS), you will support the academic and operational needs of the school.
  • School Building Substitutes will report to the same building or location every school day filling in daily absences.
  • School Building Substitutes might serve as teachers, paraprofessionals or any other positions school leaders need assistance covering that day.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as a substitute when needed for absent teachers or other staff
  • Supervise students both in and out of the classroom
  • Communicate effectively with school staff, including administrators, teachers, and support personnel, to address any concerns or issues that arise during the day
  • Perform various instructional support tasks as assigned to facilitate the effective teaching of applicable subject matter and to maintain appropriate classroom environments
  • Provide tutoring/intervention services for students, as needed
  • Follow the daily schedule (academic and supervisory), class rolls, lesson plans, and other information for the day’s activities as provided by the classroom teacher or school administration
  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks as assigned by the principal Participate in meetings and/or assisting with school events as required Perform other related duties as required and assigned
