Position Overview

The Direct Support Professional for the College Experience program at The Arc Ontario provides individualized and group support to students with developmental disabilities as they build independence, strengthen daily living skills, and participate fully in campus and community life. This role offers hands‑on assistance in areas such as communication, social engagement, personal care, household management, travel training, academic routines, and vocational exploration, all aligned with each student's individualized service plan. If you enjoy supporting learning, encouraging self‑sufficiency, and helping students navigate real college experiences, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a positive impact!

Work Location: Hobart and William Smith, Geneva, NY

Schedule

M-F; 8am-4pm; Flexibility in schedule required to meet agency and program needs.

The Arc Ontario Story

Founded in 1954 we believe that All individuals with disabilities or other challenges are one with their community.

Responsibilities

  • Provides hands-on assistance, instruction, and training to individuals which will enable them to develop and/or acquire skills in various aspects of daily living which may include communication, social, recreational, and leisure activities, self or personal care, household management, travel, work-related or vocational opportunities, money management, etc. in accordance with an individualized plan of service, and following all safety considerations.
  • Participates in the ongoing assessment and evaluation of individual's needs and abilities. Assists individuals in determining valued outcomes, activities and staff supports to form plans of service. Assists individuals in communicating needs, wants and concerns to team members.
  • Serves as a role model for individual's receiving supports, demonstrating respect, as well as social or other behaviors appropriate to the particular program or community setting. Serves as a role model for other staff by using the techniques, as trained.

Requirements

  • 18 years old
  • HS Diploma or GED preferred and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent amount of education/and or experience preferred
  • If driving is required, reliable means of transportation, NYS driver's license and safe driving record for 1 full year prior to hire date
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
