Job Description

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Reporting: Director of Sports Medicine

Summary and Scope of Position

Ursinus College participates as a member of the Centennial Conference at the NCAA Division III level. The sports medicine department provides athletic training services to 26 Division III intercollegiate sport teams. This 11-month position (July-May each year) assists the Director of Sports Medicine in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the sports medicine department and sports medicine clinic operation.

Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Provide onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, rehabilitation and referral of student-athletes for the College’s athletic department as directed by the Director of Sports Medicine / Medical Director, and attend scheduled practices/contests.
  • Serve as a preceptor for athletic training students and assist with supervision of athletic training aides.

Departmental

  • Assist in overseeing general athletic training room duties and operation and maintain inventory and equipment in good condition.
  • Manage the medical records and insurance claims for assigned athletic teams in conjunction with the secondary insurance coordinator.

Leadership

  • Consult with contracted team Physicians or their designees for guidance on the treatment of injured student-athletes, and report on their progress as necessary.
  • Assist in other administrative duties as assigned or desired.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree in athletic training from a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program.
  • A master’s degree in athletic training, or related field of study.
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in making clinical decisions regarding health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Current good standing of BOC certification.
  • Pennsylvania State License in athletic training, or eligible for such.
  • Current and active First Aid / CPR / AED certification.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to pass all relative background checks.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Two years of professional experience in athletic training at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
  • Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and transport equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Frequently works outdoor practices and games in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Frequent after-hours work (early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Occasionally operates motor vehicles, including golf carts or UTVs.

Requires a bachelor's or master's degree in athletic training from a CAATE accredited program and BOC certification. Must hold a Pennsylvania State License and current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
