The EMS Instructor is responsible for planning and presenting education programs and assisting with in-house patient education programs. This includes conducting orientation and education programs for hospital staff and the community, as well as providing patient instruction and education.

How you'll contribute The EMS Instructor is responsible for planning and presenting education programs as directed and for assisting the in-house patient education programs.

Essential Functions 1.

Presents theory in an organized, creative manner to the level of the participants understanding.

2.

Maintains clinical expertise and demonstrates competency as an active member of the EMS community.

3.

Incorporates new standards and trends as an instructor of CPR, PHTLS, PALS, ACLS, PEPP and other continuing education courses.

4.

Actively seeks and challenges students with learning experiences that meet clinical and theoretical growth requirements.

5.

In a timely manner provides feedback to Program Director on changes, plans, problems and evaluation of course offerings.

6.

Evaluates accurately the standards/participants mastery of skill development, course objectives and attainment of education outcomes.

7.

Engages in appropriate teamwork relationships within course, committee, community and school structure.

8.

Assists the Program Director and Medical Director in effective program management.

9.

Models dress and behavior in keeping with the standards of educators.

10.

Demonstrates the use of Quality Improvement and Lean Six Sigma tools and principles and participates in Quality Improvement initiatives in the Emergency Services program’s and in the field of EMS.

11.

Takes advantage of workshops, conferences and/or educational sessions from a variety of educational vendors to increase professional knowledge.

12.

Actively participates in the Paramedic Advisory Committee and related hospital committees as assigned.

13.

Possesses membership and demonstrates involvement in community organizations and promotes the image of the Conemaugh EMS Program.

14.

Analyzes formative and summative evaluation findings in the systematic evaluation process for approval/accrediting bodies.

Job Qualifications Experience Required

One year current active field and prehospital emergency services experience. Possesses Medical Command Authorization with a Pennsylvania Licensed Provider.

Preferred

Instructor status in CPR, PHTLS, PALS, ACLS and EMS. Teaching experience. Membership and participation in Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council, Southern Alleghenies EMS Council, and National Association of EMS Providers.

Education

Required: High School graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a state approved EMS – Paramedic Program with a Certificate of Completion.

Preferred

Possesses a College Degree or enrolled in a college degree track and completion within 5 years.

Certifications

Required: Current Pennsylvania Certification as an EMT-Paramedic, National Registry of EMT-Paramedic.

Preferred

CPR, PHTLS, ACLS, PALS, and PEPP certification.

Requirements

Candidates must be a graduate of a nursing program and hold a registered nurse license, with a BSN or MSN preferred. Required certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within six months of hire.
