Job description

Payroll title: EHS EDUCATION FLOATER (Full-Time)

Under the supervision of the Curriculum Specialist, the EHS Education Floater (full-time) will provide responsive care, effective teaching and an organized learning environment that promotes the health development and children’s skill growth aligned with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five, (HSELOF) including for children with disabilities. Education Floaters will emphasize nurturing and responsive practices, interactions and environments that foster trust and emotional security; are communication and language rich; promote social, emotional, behavioral, and language development and support all children’s engagement in learning experiences and activities. (HSPPS 1302.31)

  • The Education Floater will assist the Curriculum Specialist and teaching teams when needed to enter data into the Child Plus and Teaching Strategies (GOLD) database, perform clerical tasks, the Education Floater will assist the Curriculum Specialist and teaching team when needed/requested with:
  • Complete and gather child assessments, parent teacher conferences, and home visits, review for accuracy, and enter information into the Child Plus database and share data appropriately with the Curriculum Specialist and Education Coordinator when needed. HSPPS 1302.00(a)(1(2) .
  • Participate, and assist in center and classroom activities, trainings, workshops and meetings 1302.92(a)(4).
  • Support teaching staff with children who demonstrate challenging behaviors HSSPS 1302.45 (a)(1).
  • Assist the Curriculum Specialist with files and documentation in a confidential manner 1302.101(b).
  • Maintain communication with the Curriculum Specialist when she is not at the center.
  • Perform other duties, as may be required.
  • The Education Floater will provide support to the teaching staff during an absence from the classroom, including both long-term and short-term leave when assigned by the Curriculum Specialist.
  • Assist with the daily care and educational opportunities for four children, ages 0 – 3 years. HSPPS 1302.21 b(2)
  • Assist in the afterschool program when necessary.
  • Assist in establishing daily routines for each infant, toddler and preschooler in care. HSPPS 1302.31(c)(1).
  • Assist in maintain accurate USDA meal counts. HSPPS 1302.44(a)(2)

  • Assist Promoting relational learning and include individualized and small group activities that integrate appropriate daily routines into a flexible schedule of learning experiences (HSPPS 1302.31(c)(1))
  • Recognize physical activity is important to learning and assist in integrating intentional movement and physical activity into curricular activities and daily routines in ways that support health and learning to include indoor and outdoor activities. HSPPS 1302.31; HSPPS 1302.33(a)(b).
  • Assist in implementing snack and meal times that support development and learning – which may include holding infants during feeding to support socialization HSPPS 1302.31 e (2)
  • Assist in implementing Creative Curriculum, and utilize the curriculum tools, (Lesson plan organizer, Mighty minutes, Intentional Card, etc.) HSPPS 1302.31; HSPPS 1302.32(a)
  • Assist in implementing additional curricular enhancements as appropriate and as directed (e.g. Pyramid model, science-infused curriculum) HSPPS 1302.31; HSPPS 1302.32(a)
  • Under the supervision of the Curriculum Specialist, assist the teaching team in the required screening and assessment instruments to each child to determine their developmental progress. HSPPS 1302.33
  • Assist in maintaining all required attendance records, HSPPS 1302.16(a)
  • Within a reasonable amount of time, ascertain child’s diapering, and restroom usage and feeding schedule. Encourage children to feed themselves. HSPPS:1302.43, 1302.47 (b)(6)
  • Change diapers and underpants as needed. Assist in the potty training of toddlers and preschoolers based on developmental level. HSPPS:1302.43, 1302.47 (b)(6)
  • Assist in health care needs such as washing hands and brushing teeth. HSPPS:1302.43, 1302.47(b)(6)
  • Provide infants and toddlers with stimulating activities and toys. HSPPS:1302.31
  • Talk to and interact with children throughout the day, including when engaging in daily diapering, feeding, group time, play time and transition times. HSPPS:1302.31(b)(c)
  • Value and affirm each child and family’s cultural, linguistic, ethnic and family structure. HSPPS:1302.31(b)(1)(i)
  • Maintain safe, best practices hygienic feeding and diapering practices. Disinfect and sanitize the environment throughout the day. HSPPS:1302.43, 1303.47(b)(6)
  • Maintain and protect confidentiality and respect the privacy of others. HSPPS:1302.90 (c) (iii)(iv)
  • When covering a classroom for a period of time, the Education Floater will assist in conducting and participating in home visits when needed or requested by the Curriculum Specialist. HSPPS:1302.34(b)
  • Assist in Encouraging parents with the assistance of family workers to participate in the classrooms, center parent activities and meetings. HSPPS:1302.34(b)
  • Attend all assigned staff meetings and trainings when teacher is not available or as assigned. HSPPS:1302.31, 1302.91
  • Assist in conducting parent-teacher conferences as needed when teacher is not available or as assigned. HSPPS:1302.34(b)
  • The Education Floater will be responsible for maintaining ratio in the classroom when covering, cover staff breaks and assist performing clerical tasks.
    • Education Floaters will engage in practices that support the development of dual language learners. (HSPPS 1302.31 (2))
    • The Education Floater will have a positive, affectionate and responsive attitude towards all families, parents, and other primary caregivers. HSPPS 1302.31(2))
    • Include teaching practices that focus on the development of the home language and provide language experiences that expose the child to English (HSPPS 1302.31(2))
    • Additional duties may be assigned as needed for the benefit of the agency

    Qualifications

    • National CDA in Infant/Toddler or higher. Degree in Early Childhood Education or area out of field with 12 early childhood college credits preferred.
    • 45 hours DCF training must be completed including the corresponding exams within DCF allotted timeframe.
    • Must be able to effectively communicate information and ideas both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to lift children and objects up to 40 lbs.
    • Intermediate computer skills, internet and e-mail.
    • Able to stand and sit for extended periods
