About the role

Conduct engaging group and private swim lessons for individuals of all ages and skill levels. Ensure a safe learning environment while collaborating with the Aquatics Supervisor and Instructional Coordinators.

The Role

The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Swim Instructor to join the MAC Swim School.

This instructor will enthusiastically orchestrate engaging swim lessons within a safe and enjoyable teaching environment.

This will be done by tailoring instruction to individuals of all ages and skill levels, developing essential skills following the MAC swim lesson program.

This is a part-time, fully on-site position that offers a flexible schedule with variable hours.

What You’ll Do Conduct engaging group and private swim lessons, fostering a safe and positive learning environment.

Attend swim instructional staff meetings and training sessions to continuously enhance your skills.

Maintain open communication with Aquatics Supervisor & Instructional Coordinators, ensuring a collaborative program.

Ensure regular and predictable attendance, setting up and cleaning lesson equipment with precision.

Act as an extra guardian during swim lessons, especially when needed to ensure utmost safety.

Promote member participation in aquatics department programs, creating a vibrant community.

Respond promptly to emergencies, injuries, and illnesses, showcasing your commitment to safety.

What You’ll Bring Current CPR-PR/AED, First-aid certifications are a must; Lifeguard certification is a definite plus. Excellent communication skills to connect with both staff and members effectively. Passion for working with children, creating an enjoyable and educational experience. Previous aquatics instructional experience highly preferred, bringing valuable expertise to the team.

Physical Requirements Ability to tread water and swim continuously for extended periods.

Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks such as demonstrating techniques, swimming laps, and supporting students in the water.

Adequate strength to assist and support swimmers of various sizes in the water, including lifting or towing them to safety if necessary.

Ability to move freely in and out of the pool, crouch, bend, and stand for long periods.

Good eyesight and hearing to effectively observe students and communicate instructions, especially in noisy environments.

Physical ability to perform lifesaving techniques, such as CPR, rescue breaths, and using a backboard for spinal injury precautions.
