Job Description

Summary Organization's Summary Statement: The Department of Athletics at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites resumes for a full-time, twelve-month, contractual position with limited benefits. The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach provides support to the Head Coach in all aspects of developing and maintaining a competitive NCAA Division I sports program.

Salary

$44,948 - $48,000

Benefits: Benefits other than leave are subject to change by action of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the University System of Maryland, or the State of Maryland. The minimum benefits to be provided to all Contingent Category II employees, on an annual basis, are listed below. These benefits shall be prorated for contracts of less than one year and for less than full-time employment.

Health Insurance - Contingent Category II employees may participate in the State Health Insurance Program and Prescription Plans that are available to state employees. Additionally, Contingent II employees may participate in supplemental retirement plans approved by the State of Maryland and the USM per laws and regulations.

Annual Leave - Five (5) days of accrued annual

Sick Leave - Three (3) days of accrued sick leave

Holidays

Eight (8) holidays – New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the

Friday after

Thanksgiving

Day, and

Christmas

Day

Responsibilities:

Assist in the development, implementation, and supervision of individual and group strength, conditioning, and fitness training programs for men and women student-athletes participating in the University’s intercollegiate athletics program.

Support the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in promoting athletic performance, injury prevention, and compliance with NCAA and institutional standards.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Abilities:

Knowledge of NCAA rules and safety requirement of strength and conditioning training to include, but not limited to, teaching techniques and safety measures for student-

Excellent organization and interpersonal skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with coaches, athletic trainers, and sports medicine personnel.

Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Physical

Demands:

Scope of the positions requires the ability to perform and/or demonstrate various physical strength exercises, and to assist others performing those exercises.

May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk.

May require lifting.

Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.

Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.

Licenses/

Certifications:

Must be certified in order to adequately conduct workout sessions as governed by NCAA guidelines.

Must possess a nationally recognized certification such as CSCS (NSCA) or SCCC (CSCCa).

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience

Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and university rules and regulations, as well as dedication to the full academic development of student-athletes. Strong communication, organization, and administrative skills. Additional
