Job description: Medical Assistant (MA) Earn to Learn Program

MaineGeneral's Medical Assistant Earn to Learn Program is now accepting applications for the next class starting Monday, September 14, 2026.

Program Highlights • Structured Weekly Schedule

  • This is a paid, benefit-eligible training position at 32 hours per week.

  • Training: The program includes approximately 168 hours of classroom instruction and 240+ hours of hands-on clinical experience to prepare you for a Medical Assistant role.

  • Learning: Participants are compensated for all scheduled training hours during the program.
  • Certification
  • Opportunity: Upon successful completion, students are eligible to take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam administered by the National HealthCare Association (NHA).

Pre-Interview

Screening: All applicants will go through a screening process before moving forward to manager interviews.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Attendance: Commitment to attend all classes and complete the program is essential.

Work

Commitment: Participants must commit to working as a Medical Assistant at MaineGeneral for a minimum of 24 months after program completion.

CASAS

Exam: Applicants must pass the CASAS exam with at least a 10th-grade reading level and an 8th-grade math level prior to the start date.
