About the role

Assist the Head Coach in implementing soccer training, instructing student-athletes in fundamentals, and managing game-related duties. Support recruiting efforts, fundraising initiatives, and provide academic and athletic mentorship to players.

General Statement of Duties

The assistant coach provides instructional, administrative, and recruiting support services under the direction of the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Primary duty is to assist the Head Coach in the implementation of sport training through teaching and instructing the student-athletes in the rules and fundamentals of soccer.
  • Under the direction of the head coach, will assist in providing sport skill instruction, assist in the conducting of practice sessions, perform game related duties, and motivate players to give their best efforts.
  • Contribute to recruiting efforts through on-campus visits and off-campus evaluation.
  • Support team fundraising initiatives.
  • Mentor student athletes.
  • Demonstrate sincere interest in the personal, academic and athletic success of the student-athlete.
  • Represent the University in a positive manner at all times.
  • Abide by all SLIAC and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assisting other coaches in the department with game management duties.
  • May supervise student assistants and/or student managers.
  • Functional/Technical Skills
  • Demonstrated soccer coaching knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills.
  • Have knowledge of NCAA Division III rules

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in coaching soccer or other related soccer activities.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the university community and the public.
  • Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations and to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least one year of soccer coaching experience. Candidates must possess strong communication skills and a thorough understanding of NCAA Division III regulations.
