Provides direct leadership and instruction for students in swimming classes while maintaining a safe environment. Responsible for building relationships with parents, maintaining progress records, and following YMCA safety protocols.
The WSYMCA is seeking experienced Swim Instructors to join our team at our Church St and Wells Ave locations!
Starting pay at $15.50, dependent upon experience, certifications and education.

Provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.
1. Instructs swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines (i.e. keeping swimmers safe, challenged, and actively engaged, maintain a safe swimming environment, and enforcing pool rules & policies), having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
3. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
4. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)
5. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
6. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports, as necessary.
7. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
8. Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
9. Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned.
1. Minimum age of 15.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
3. Must be able to demonstrate all stokes and swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
4. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, or equivalent preferred.
5. YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent preferred.
1. Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.
2. Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
3. Ability to swim and demonstrate all strokes and skills.
