About the role

The instructor is responsible for implementing after-school programs and fostering a safe, stimulating learning environment for diverse students. They must collaborate with parents, faculty, and community partners while managing student behavior and engagement.

Position: After school program instructor

Job Description

The After School Program Instructor’s (ASPI) primary responsibilities and qualifications are listed below. All ASPCs report to their site administrator(s). The ASPI is responsible for implementation of the after school program with the guidance and direction of the After School Program Coordinator. The ASPI will foster a collaborative and stimulating program and environment for a diverse group of students, as well as foster a strong collaboration between parents, faculty members, board members and community partners.

Reports to: School administrator (S)/After school program coordinator

Responsibilities

● Fosters a safe and nurturing learning environment ● Maintains after school program systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in program activities ● Supports various instructional and supervision strategies to ensure that needs of all participants are met ● Establishes an environment where students are excited about participating in program activities ● Builds strong relationships with students and parents and teachers ● Demonstrates support and knowledge of school's goals and mission ● Attends and participates in school-based meetings and activities ● Can develop or assist in the development of activities that are supportive of school goals and age appropriate ● Provides continual monitoring of student engagement, maintains student records and completes assigned paperwork in provided timeframes ● Collaborates with the other members of the staff ● Attends and implements professional development training throughout and beyond the school year ● Participates in school events during, before and after school

Qualifications

● Meet the requirements of NCLB & ESSA ● Prior experience working with students in a learning/tutoring/after school program environment ● Bilingual in Spanish and/or Korean preferred ● Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook ● Must be a flexible, positive, detail-oriented, team player who is patient and willing to learn. ● Must be able to work in a fast paced work environment with flexibility and dedication ● At times this job may entail lifting, walking, sitting and standing for periods of time

No new employee can begin employment until all local mandated trainings are completed and the fingerprint cards are processed by the California Department of Justice and it is determined that there is no criminal conviction that would prohibit the employee from working with students and staff.

Requirements

Candidates must meet NCLB and ESSA requirements and have prior experience in tutoring or after-school environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, and bilingual skills in Spanish or Korean are preferred.
