About the role

The student assistant will manage daily operations, maintenance, and setup of the golf learning center, including range ball management and facility upkeep. They will also support instructional programming, assist with golf performance technology, and ensure a safe, professional environment for all facility users.

Job Summary The Buckingham Golf Center Operations Student Assistant will assist with the daily operations, setup, maintenance, and student-support functions of the FGCU Buckingham Golf Learning Center, the PGA Golf Management Program’s outdoor experiential learning facility for player development, golf practice, training, teaching, and coaching activities. This position supports the Director of Golf Instructional Operations, program faculty, PGM students, and approved facility users by helping maintain a safe, organized, professional, and educational practice environment.

Job Description: Primary Job

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with daily outside services and operational support for the Buckingham Golf Learning Center. Manage range ball operations, including picking, washing, sorting, staging, and distributing practice golf balls for facility use. Set up, maintain, and reset practice areas, including the driving range, short game areas, putting areas, bunker areas, and other designated training spaces. Assist with general facility upkeep, including collecting tees, organizing practice stations, returning equipment to designated storage areas, monitoring trash and debris, and helping maintain a clean and professional facility appearance. Support short game facility setup and upkeep, including preparation of training areas, placement of targets or cones, bunker raking, and organization of practice materials. Assist with setup, breakdown, and organization of training aids, teaching aids, alignment tools, targets, signage, and other instructional materials. Assist the Director of Golf Instructional Operations with lesson setup, player development sessions, instructional programming, and supervised practice activities as needed. Provide operational support during open-practice periods for PGA Golf Management students, golf team students, and other approved users. Assist program faculty with facility setup and preparation for academic course visits, lab sessions, experiential learning activities, skills assessments, and student training activities. Assist with special events, educational events, clinics, competitions, skills challenges, demonstrations, and other program-related facility activities. Support the setup, operation, calibration, and breakdown of instructional technology, which may include video systems, launch monitors, data collection tools, 3D motion systems, tablets, cameras, and other golf performance technologies. Assist with basic data collection and organization during instructional, research, or student learning activities under the direction of the Director of Golf Instructional Operations or program faculty. Help monitor facility use to ensure users follow established safety procedures, practice guidelines, equipment-use expectations, and university/program policies. Communicate facility needs, maintenance concerns, equipment issues, safety concerns, or policy violations to the Director of Golf Instructional Operations or appropriate program personnel. Operate a golf cart or utility vehicle as needed for facility operations, only after completing required university golf cart safety training. Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned, including preparing practice areas for use, securing equipment, returning materials to storage, and ensuring the facility is left in an organized condition. Provide courteous and professional service to students, faculty, staff, guests, and approved facility users. Conditions of Employment

Current enrollment as an FGCU student, preferably within the PGA Golf Management Program or a related field. Must have reliable transportation to and from the FGCU Buckingham Golf Learning Center, as shuttle transportation from main campus is not currently available. Must be able to work approximately 20 hours per week with some schedule flexibility based on facility needs, class/lab schedules, open-practice times, and special events. Must be able to lift, carry, push, or move up to 50 pounds as part of regular facility operations. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, sun, humidity, wind, and light rain when appropriate and safe. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to operate a golf cart or utility vehicle upon successful completion of required university golf cart safety training.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest in golf operations, golf instruction, coaching, player development, sport technology, or facility management. Experience using or willingness to learn golf performance technologies such as launch monitors, video systems, training aids, and data collection tools. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Must be dependable, punctual, professional, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Must be able to follow instructions, communicate effectively, and support a safe, organized, and professional learning environment. Familiarity with golf practice facility operations, outside services, golf instruction, player development, or competitive golf environments. Basic knowledge of golf terminology, practice facility etiquette, and safe use of golf training areas. Promote a common purpose consistent with stated University goals and demonstrate a commitment to students and the learning environment. Posses the knowledge of general written standards and procedures utilized, and have the ability to read, interpret, and follow procedural and policy manual related to the job tasks. Provide quality customer service by creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Present a professional image in word, action and attire.
