The Literacy Coach provides instructional support and coaching to preschool teachers to implement the Early Literacy and Learning Model (ELLM) effectively. They also assist with project-wide activities, data collection, and the development of training materials to improve literacy outcomes for children.
Job Summary The OPS ELLM Literacy Coach utilizes the Early Literacy and Learning Model (ELLM) program to support early literacy and learning in at-risk preschool classrooms. Assists project-wide activities and works in collaboration with partners and the ELLM Team. Supports on-site implementation of project components including the ELLM program and Wings on Words (WOW) for English Language Learners. Implements instructional coaching practices and application of current related research.
Typical duties include but are not limited to Fulfills instructional or practice-based coaching role in preschool classrooms with a focus on implementing the ELLM program. Assists with the implementation of project-wide activities working in collaboration with partners and the ELLM Team. Travels throughout the community and assists with on-site implementation of program components. Assists with all aspects of data collection. Assists with problem-solving and conflict resolution support related to overall operation of the programs. Provides instructional coaching to ELLM pre-kindergarten teachers to increase child literacy outcomes for children of low-income families. Provides model of ELLM norms and behaviors and offers support and resources to teachers to become proficient users of research-based instructional strategies and materials that are part of the ELLM Classroom Model. Spends assigned time in each designated classroom reviewing data, observing, reflecting and conferencing, and modeling with teachers. Ensures implementation of WOW activities to promote growth in oral language and vocabulary skills for English language learners. Helps develop training and material for Teacher Get Togethers, newsletters and Adobe Connect meetings. Assists teachers to implement the ELLM Family Model and to create a literacy-rich, interactive classroom environment. Assists ELLM teachers with using the assessment results to identify children’s needs and plans instruction based on individualized instructional outcomes. Assists with the change process as it unfolds in ELLM classrooms and helps to solve practice-based implementation problems as needed. Required Qualifications: Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. Valid driver's license. Teaching experience at the pre-kindergarten through primary level Experience working with young children. Experience working with adult and children's learning styles, development and culture, or related areas.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Development, Literacy, or related field. 5 years teaching experience at the pre-kindergarten through primary level. Reading and CLASS certifications Professional development experience at regional, national, or international education conferences.
