  • SUMMARY: Provide classroom style instruction in soft skills, job readiness, job retention, and digital literacy with the objective of building participants’ skillsets and knowledge to support career advancement and/or to successfully obtain and retain competitive employment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provide instruction in group and individual settings to build participants’ digital literacy skills and knowledge in computer basics, internet fundamentals, common application software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook that will prepare them to obtain digital literacy certifications through Northstar and deliver instruction in education and training programs such as job search workshops. Facilitate workshops related to employment, such as career exploration and planning, goal setting, networking, social media, job search strategies, resume writing and interviewing, job readiness, and for a variety of life skills, such as problem solving, esteem building, customer service, and coping with life stressors, as appropriate to meet the needs of the community of participants served. Maintain an ongoing assessment of individual participant progress and encourage continued courses according to the needs of the students. Support in the development/improvement of Goodwill’s digital literacy and job readiness curriculums. Maintain inventory of information and technology equipment (hardware and software). Ensure hardware and other technological infrastructure is properly set-up and operating before training sessions. Coordinate with Employment Specialists, Program Manager and other Goodwill staff to successfully assist participants and community members. Coordinate transportation for participants to designated training locations in a manner that is safe and lawful. Promote course offerings at new participant orientations and other internal/community meetings. Perform clerical and administrative duties such as updating reports, completing timesheets, expense reports, and scheduling training with clients. Oversee Northstar Certification testing processes by serving as the primary point of contact for test scheduling and proctoring the exam. Complete and maintain accurate documentation and track services provided to program participants. Perform designated duties to ensure meeting the goals of the department. SECONDARY DUTIES Perform related duties as assigned.

  • REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business technology or any other closely related discipline preferred.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid California Class C driver’s license required.

  • REQUIRED: Two years of instructional experience. Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
  • Knowledge
  • REQUIRED: Comprehensive knowledge and skill in operating a computer or overall “tech savvy”. Strong understanding and skills in navigating Windows OS, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Drive, SharePoint and web browsing. Understanding of barriers to employment faced by participants. Familiarity with Goodwill’s mission, general policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).

Ability to demonstrate understanding of the entire operations of Mission Services and ability to work across functions as needed to ensure both the optimal delivery of services to the public and a supportive work environment. Ability to demonstrate flexibility in service delivery times, including being available to attend community events or offer services during the evenings and weekends as determined to be in the best interest of serving the needs of the community. Ability to communicate in English/Spanish, both orally and in writing. Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Ability to understand others’ feelings and personal viewpoints and adapt accordingly. Ability to reason, make generalizations, evaluations, and decisions based on both sensory/judgmental and measurable/verifiable criteria. Ability to understand and follow program-specific policies and procedures. Ability to understand and follow Goodwill Mission Standard Operating Procedures. Ability to drive a vehicle. This requires a good driving record and may require the ability to provide evidence of personal vehicle liability insurance. Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.

  • EFFORT: The job requires some emotional effort involving occasional short deadlines requiring little or no overtime. Work environment varies with periods of isolated high activity/demand. JOB SETTING The job is performed in an enclosed, climatically-controlled office building. This may vary when visiting other employer/industry sites. Work is completed independently, one-on-one with the client and in a group setting with clients, client/employer meetings and in cooperation with other staff and referring agents. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The job is primary sedentary with walking and standing as is necessary to carry out the job duties. Normal lifting and/or carrying is limited to approximately 25 lbs. On occasion, heavier item may be lifted/carried. Heavier items (26 lbs. or more) are moved by using proper material handling equipment, assistance from another person or by work order request. Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
