Position Overview The Differentiated Literacy Instructor (DLI) is responsible for providing targeted, small-group literacy instruction to elementary students in grades K–5. Using student assessment data and evidence-based instructional practices, the DLI delivers differentiated reading intervention designed to accelerate student achievement and strengthen foundational literacy skills. Working closely with the Instructional Coach and Site Coordinator, the DLI develops engaging, standards-aligned lessons that address individual learning needs while promoting reading proficiency, comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency, and overall academic success.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning Deliver high-quality, differentiated small-group reading instruction aligned with Florida's B.E.S.T. Standards. Provide targeted literacy interventions based on student assessment data and identified learning needs. Develop engaging lessons that strengthen phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing connections. Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of individual students. Utilize evidence-based literacy strategies to improve student achievement and reading growth. Foster a positive, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that encourages confidence and academic success.

  • Assessment & Data Administer and monitor student assessments as directed.

    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
    • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, academic growth, and behavior as needed.
    • Program Responsibilities Prepare engaging daily lesson plans and instructional materials.
    • Maintain organized instructional resources and classroom materials.
    • Follow all schedules, transitions, and operational procedures.
    • Support family engagement activities and literacy events.
    • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Big Ideas Educational Services Staff Handbook.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.

    Qualifications

    Required Valid Florida Professional or Temporary Educator Certificate. Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field. Minimum of one (1) year of classroom teaching experience, preferably in elementary education. Strong knowledge of literacy instruction, reading intervention strategies, and differentiated instruction. Experience using assessment data to guide instructional decisions. Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional learning team. Successful Level II Background Screening. Completion of required DCF Child Care Training (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

    Preferred Qualifications

    Reading Endorsement or Reading Certification. Experience providing small-group reading intervention and differentiated literacy instruction. Experience with progress monitoring tools and evidence-based intervention programs. Experience working in after-school, summer, or expanded learning programs. Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) preferred.
