Position Overview The Reading Certified Project-Based Learning (PBL) Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned reading instruction through project-based learning experiences that promote literacy, critical thinking, and student engagement.

Working closely with the Instructional Coach and Site Coordinator, this educator provides differentiated instruction, monitors student progress, utilizes assessment data to guide instruction, and creates meaningful learning experiences that connect classroom concepts to real-world applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning Deliver engaging project-based reading instruction aligned with Florida's B.E.S.T. Standards. Facilitate small-group and whole-group literacy instruction that supports diverse learning needs. Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of individual students. Integrate reading, writing, vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking into daily instruction. Foster a positive classroom culture that encourages curiosity, collaboration, and active participation. Utilize hands-on learning experiences that promote student engagement and academic growth.

Assessment & Data Administer and monitor student assessments as directed. Analyze student data to inform instructional planning and intervention strategies. Maintain accurate records of student progress and academic performance. Collaborate with the Instructional Coach to adjust instruction based on student achievement data.

Classroom Management Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment. Implement positive classroom management and behavior support strategies. Maintain direct supervision of students at all times to ensure student safety. Follow all organizational safety procedures and emergency protocols.

Collaboration Collaborate with the Instructional Coach to implement curriculum and instructional best practices. Work closely with the Site Coordinator and program staff to support overall program success. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required trainings. Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, academic growth, and behavior as needed.

  • Program Responsibilities Prepare engaging daily lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Incorporate educational technology and interactive learning experiences when appropriate.
  • Support family engagement activities and academic events.
  • Maintain instructional materials and classroom organization.
  • Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Big Ideas Educational Services Staff Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.

Qualifications

Required Valid Florida Professional or Temporary Teaching Certificate with Reading certification or Elementary Education certification. Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field. Minimum of 1–2 years of classroom teaching experience preferred. Experience teaching elementary-aged students. Knowledge of Florida B.E.S.T. Standards and evidence-based literacy instruction. Strong classroom management and student engagement skills. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to use student assessment data to guide instruction. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional learning team. Successful Level II Background Screening. Completion of required DCF Child Care Training (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Project-Based Learning (PBL). Reading Endorsement preferred. Experience providing academic intervention or small-group literacy instruction. Experience working in after-school, summer, or expanded learning programs. Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) preferred.

Requirements
