About the role

Assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive NCAA Division II athletic performance program to maximize student-athlete performance. Lead strength and conditioning sessions while ensuring compliance with NCAA and institutional regulations.

The Assistant Athletic Performance Coach reports to the Head Athletic Performance Coach and plays a key role in supporting the University's NCAA Division II athletic performance program.

This position is responsible for helping student-athletes maximize athletic performance through effective strength and conditioning programs while promoting physical health, safety, teamwork, and personal development.

The successful candidate will contribute to the overall success of the Athletics Department and uphold the mission, values, and compliance expectations of Newman University and the NCAA.

What You'll Do Assist with the planning, implementation, and administration of a comprehensive NCAA Division II athletic performance program.

Design and lead strength and conditioning sessions that prepare student-athletes for competition and enhance overall athletic performance.

Educate and mentor student-athletes on physical wellness, safety, teamwork, and appropriate personal conduct.

Collaborate with coaches and athletics staff to develop strategies that support individual and team success.

Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies and regulations.

Support Athletics Department initiatives through community engagement, fundraising efforts, booster activities, promotional events, and service projects.

Complete all required University training and contribute to departmental success through additional responsibilities as assigned.

What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.

Current CSCS certification from a nationally recognized strength and conditioning organization.

Experience coaching and developing athletes in a strength and conditioning or athletic performance setting.

Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, university personnel, and community stakeholders.

Knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations preferred.

Valid driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle records check.

Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications in accordance with NCAA requirements.

Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Ability to perform both office-based and physically demanding coaching activities, including demonstrating athletic movements and working in training and competition environments.

As a member of the NCAA, individuals employed by or associated with a member institution to administer, conduct or coach intercollegiate athletics shall act with honesty and sportsmanship at all times so that the intercollegiate athletics as a whole, their institutions and they, as individuals, represent the honor and dignity of fair play and the generally recognized high standards associated with the wholesome competitive sports. (See Bylaw 10 for more specific ethical conduct standards that apply to all institutional staff members and student-athletes.) Institutional staff members found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension of pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations, whether such violations occurred at the certifying institution or during the individual’s previous employment at another member institution.

It shall be the responsibility of the head coach to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the program and to monitor the activities regarding compliance of all assistant coaches and other administrators within the program who report directly or indirectly to the head coach (Bylaw 11.1.2).
