About the position
As Adult Day Program Instructor, you will support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by leading structured activities, teaching life skills, and promoting independence in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. This is a hands-on role focused on direct support, skill-building, and meaningful engagement in both center-based and community-based settings. You will work closely with participants of varying abilities, ensuring services are person-centered, respectful, and aligned with each individual’s goals and preferences.
What You'll Do
- Program Activities & Engagement
- Lead and facilitate daily activities including arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, cooking, and educational activities
- Plan and support community outings and recreational activities
- Encourage participation, engagement, and social interaction among clients
- Life Skills Development
- Teach and reinforce daily living skills such as self-care, hygiene, money management, communication, and problem-solving
- Support individuals in building independence and confidence in everyday tasks
- Adapt instruction to meet varying ability levels and learning styles
- Direct Support & Care
- Provide hands-on support to individuals with IDD in a respectful and person-centered manner
- Assist clients as needed with mobility, behavior support, and daily routines
- Promote dignity, choice, and independence in all interactions
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely records of daily activities, attendance, and client progress
- Complete required documentation in accordance with program and regulatory standards
- Communicate client observations and concerns to supervisory staff
- Team Collaboration & Training
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure consistent and high-quality services
- Follow program guidelines, safety procedures, and behavior support plans
- Transportation & Community Support
- Drive Arc vehicles to transport clients to community activities and outings as needed
- Ensure safe transportation practices and supervision at all times
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements
- Must pass a post-offer pre-employment background check, non-arduous physical, drug/TB screen, and driving record check
- Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record, including no DUI convictions within the past five (5) years and no more than two (2) points on the driving record
- Ability to work in various environments, including office and community settings
- Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation
- May require occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs), standing, walking, or assisting individuals with mobility needs, if applicable
- Work environment may include exposure to pet allergens. The Arc maintains a pet-friendly culture, and animals (such as the office cat) may occasionally be present in the workplace. Employees may also encounter pet allergens through donated items or community environments.
