JOB TITLE: Teaching Assistant: Osteopathic Medicine Department SUPERVISOR: Chair of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Department This job description provides a general outline of duties and qualifications of the position. Other duties may be assigned, and the description may be changed at any time. It is not intended to limit normal change and growth nor prevent employees from working to ensure the success of our endeavors. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Teaching Assistants (TA) for the Department are responsible for facilitating laboratory sessions with first-year Osteopathic students with faculty and answering questions with assistance from faculty. RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to: Review the lecture material for the first-year students and be able to assist the students with new techniques based on the lecture material. Manage and do preparation for individual and/or group sessions. Recognize and utilize study techniques within the different learning styles and student preferences Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice Provide direct assistance in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials needed for student success QUALIFICATION(S): Must be 2nd year student Student must be in good standing and passing all classes KEY COMPETENCIES: Excellent written and verbal communication and comprehension skills. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of privileged information Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail. Ability to manage professional and interpersonal relationships and interact effectively with diverse members of the institutional community and outside constituencies.
