  • Range: $26.00 - $46.00 HourlyPosition Purpose Provide direct and consultative special education services to a specific student with blindness or visual impairments in accordance with their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Support students in accessing the curriculum through specialized instruction, accommodations, assistive technology, and collaboration with educational staff. This position is contingent on the enrollment of this student or needs by the district for BVI teaching. Essential Functions Implement direct and indirect services as outlined in students' IEPs. Provide specialized instruction to address the educational needs of a student with blindness or visual impairments. Develop, adapt, and provide accessible instructional materials, including Braille and other specialized formats. Support classroom accommodations, including the use of Braille writers and other specialized equipment. Identify, recommend, and provide guidance regarding specialized equipment and materials needed to support students' visual impairment needs. Consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and support staff regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, and environmental adaptations. Provide recommendations and training regarding appropriate assistive technology and accessible instructional materials. Teach student to effectively use Braille, assistive technology, and other specialized tools as appropriate. Monitor the accessibility of instructional materials and ensure curriculum resources remain appropriate throughout the school year. Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to evaluations, progress monitoring, and educational planning. Maintain required documentation, service logs, and progress reports in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements. Other Position Responsibilities Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Participate in required professional development and staff meetings as appropriate. Maintain compliance with district policies and applicable special education regulations. Core Competencies Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, students, and families. Knowledge of Braille literacy, Braille writers, accessible instructional materials, and accommodations for students with visual impairments. Knowledge of assistive technology and specialized equipment for students with visual impairments. Understanding of instructional practices for students with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and consultation skills. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities. QualificationsRequired Qualifications Valid Minnesota teaching license as a Teacher of Students with Blindness/Visual Impairments (BVI/TVI).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience serving students with multiple disabilities. Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary educational teams. Orientation and Mobility (O&M) certification or experience (preferred but not required). Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout school buildings and community instructional settings. Ability to transport and demonstrate specialized instructional materials and equipment. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Must hold a valid Minnesota teaching license as a Teacher of Students with Blindness/Visual Impairments (BVI/TVI). Experience with multiple disabilities and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) certification are preferred.
