UTHealth Houston's Behavioral Sciences Campus (BSC) is hiring a Spanish Language Interpreter!

Our Behavioral Sciences Campus, the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the country, is comprised of John S.

Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center and Harris County Psychiatric Center, serving 27 counties.

BSC offers individualized inpatient treatment for a variety of behavioral health disorders across its 23 on-site units, totaling 538 beds.

These units include treatment in child/adolescent, adult/geriatric, co-occurring disease, psychosis, and competency restoration units.

The Spanish Language Interpreter plays a critical role in ensuring patients' access to psychiatric services by utilizing strong English and Spanish writing and translation skills, with attention to grammar and accuracy, to support the delivery of essential, timely care.

Position Summary

Provides oral and written translation of diverse patient care-related material. Position Key Accountabilities: Provides written translation of patient histories and other medical reports, patient education and instructional material, advance directives, medical documents and other institutional publications. Provides oral translation of discussions related to patient referral, new patient registration, financial evaluation, patient assessment, treatment planning, admissions, discharge, and other clinical and healthcare-related discussions. Interprets clinical, financial, psychosocial and ethical discussions related to patient care activities. Serves as a resource to patients, staff and care providers to contribute to successful patient outcomes. Performs on-call translation duties requiring immediate response to electronic paging. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Strong English and Spanish writing and translation skills strongly preferred.

  • Education: Associate's Degree required. May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

  • Requirements: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure. A foreign adversary is a nation listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4.

Requirements

Requires an Associate's Degree or equivalent experience and at least 2 years of relevant experience. Strong English and Spanish writing and translation skills are strongly preferred.
