Advancing Educational Justice for Refugee and Immigrant Youth Georgia Fugees Academy Charter School (GFACS) is collecting applications for a Special Education Teacher serving 6th-12th Grade who possess an unwavering commitment to the Fugees Family, Inc. mission and the willingness to go above & beyond to meet the needs of students, families, and staff.
Reporting to the School Leader, this is a 10-month, exempt position.
Our program begins with middle-school-level; however, our instructional scope begins with Kindergarten-level material.
Most Fugees Academy students begin middle school performing well below grade level.
Key Responsibilities The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for providing direct and indirect services to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs.
This includes delivering specially designed instruction, supporting students in both inclusion and small-group settings, monitoring progress toward IEP goals, and maintaining accurate documentation.
The teacher will collaborate closely with general education teachers to support accommodations, modifications, behavior supports, and instructional planning.
The teacher will also participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, reevaluations, manifestation determination reviews, and other special education-related meetings as needed.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining compliance with IEP timelines, collecting and analyzing student data, communicating regularly with families, supporting testing accommodations, and ensuring that all services are documented accurately and consistently.

A valid Georgia teaching certificate in Special Education is preferred.
Candidates must have IEP certification. (The development, special education compliance, progress monitoring, accommodations, modifications, and inclusive instructional practices.) Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, professionalism, organization, and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, families, service providers, and school leadership.
Experience working in a charter school, Title I school, or urban school setting is preferred. Experience with Go-IEP, Infinite Campus, progress monitoring tools, MTSS, and Georgia special education procedures is also a plus.
