  • SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA's Education & Homeschool Programs provide a supportive environment for families pursuing alternative education by balancing academics with health, wellness and community. Through hands-on classes and group activities - including STEM, outdoor exploration and physical activity - students build curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, critical analysis, responsibility, independence and positive social skills. The instructor teaches as assigned based on changing program needs, enrollment, class offerings and staff availability. Programs operate August-November and January-April/May. Reliable availability is needed Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday, plus a limited number of mandatory meetings between semesters.

  • FUNCTIONS: 1. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. 2. Complete required abuse risk management training. 3. Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth. 4. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. 5. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements. 6. Plan, prepare, and teach engaging homeschool enrichment classes as assigned based on program needs. 7. Facilitate learning through educational and physical activities that encourage creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking and analysis, responsibility and independence. 8. Create a safe, positive, welcoming and inclusive environment for students and families. 9. Adapt lessons and classroom management to support students of varied ages, abilities, learning styles and academic levels 10. Maintain appropriate supervision and actively engage with students throughout classes and program activities. 11. Serve as a positive role model and mentor. 12. Prepare materials and learning spaces, manage supplies and assist with room setup, transitions, cleanup and storage. 13. Communicate and collaborate with the Enrichment Coordinator, parents, volunteers and colleagues to support student success. 14. Remain flexible to teach different subjects, themes, age groups and/or physical activities as program needs, enrollment and class offerings grow and change. Attend required meetings and support special events or additional program duties as assigned.

  • DEMANDS: · The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to remain attentive and actively supervise children in the classroom, gym, and other program spaces.· The employee may frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, and participate in or demonstrate age-appropriate physical activity. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee must be able to set up, pack up, organize, and clean rooms and program materials.
  • QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: CPR/AED, First Aid, Oxygen and Bloodborne Pathogen training required within 60 days of employment. Child Abuse Prevention training required before/on the first day of working with youth. Previous experience teaching, leading, or working with youth in a school, homeschool, camp, recreation, or enrichment environment preferred. Ability to teach in a hands-on, engaging way to groups of children with varied ages, abilities, and academic levels. Reliable availability on Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday during program semesters, as scheduled according to employee availability and program needs. Availability to attend a limited number of mandatory planning, training or staff meetings between semesters. Strong communication, organization, classroom management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with staff and volunteers.
