Job Description

Summary Saint Leo University seeks a dynamic Honors HISTORY TEACHER to deliver rigorous, college-preparatory instruction in World History, U.S. History, Government, and Social Studies. The ideal candidate will embrace a flipped classroom model, foster deep critical thinking and inquiry, and support student-athletes in balancing elite athletic training with academic excellence. This role includes serving as an academic advisor to a small group of students with weekly progress reporting to parents.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Curriculum & Instruction: Design and deliver Honors-level courses in World History, U.S. History, Government, and Social Studies using a flipped classroom model that emphasizes active learning, critical thinking, historical inquiry, primary source analysis, and civic engagement. Student-Athlete Support: Differentiate instruction and assessments to accommodate demanding training and competition schedules while maintaining high academic standards and college-preparatory rigor. Advisory & Progress Reporting: Serve as academic advisor to an assigned group of students. Monitor progress, provide guidance, and prepare weekly educational progress reports for parents to ensure transparency and support. Inquiry & Skill Development: Plan and facilitate engaging, inquiry-driven lessons and projects that build strong historical inquiry, primary source analysis, and civic engagement skills aligned with Honors and college-preparatory expectations. Flipped Classroom Facilitation: Create high-quality pre-class resources and lead dynamic, discussion- driven classroom sessions focused on application, analysis, and deeper understanding. Community & Safeguarding: Contribute to the boarding school community, support school events, and uphold all child protection and safeguarding standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in Education or relevant subject area (Mathematics, English, History, or related field) Valid teaching certification/license (QTS, state license, or equivalent); IB or Cambridge experience strongly preferred Minimum 2 years teaching experience at the secondary level, ideally in an Honors, IB, or college-preparatory setting Experience with flipped classroom pedagogy and creating engaging digital learning resources Strong organizational skills and comfort with regular parent communication and progress reporting Passion for working with student-athletes and supporting their dual academic-athletic development Excellent collaboration skills with coaches, dorm staff, and academic leadership in a boarding school

Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant subject and a valid teaching certification, with a master's degree and IB or Cambridge experience preferred. Candidates must have at least 2 years of secondary teaching experience, ideally in an Honors or college-preparatory setting.
