About the role

Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children in a Christian-based environment. Implement lessons using the Thompson’s Scope and Sequence Curriculum and maintain a clean, orderly classroom.

The function of the Avenue MDO program is to provide a safe, Christian-based, developmentally appropriate environment for all children. All of the requirements and responsibilities outlined in this job description should be handled with this goal in mind.

Duties

Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert to the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group. Keep classrooms clean, neat, and orderly. Keep the program directors informed, as much as possible, of any program needs. Report to the program directors any special needs or problems of individual children. Handle discipline promptly and in accordance with stated policy. Maintain effective hygiene procedures in caring for children (i.e., wipe runny noses, wash hands of children before lunch, etc.) Be interactive with the children in your care.

Performance Responsibilities

Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Endeavors to become acquainted with students in his/her assignment. Exhibits an understanding of children’s needs and shows concern and patience in dealing with those needs. Be able to perform duties associated with daily care of children in your classroom (i.e., lifting children, playing with children on the ground level). Become certified in CPR/First Aid and keep current certification. Handle emergencies with composure and level-headedness. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with staff and families. Works as an effective team member in implementing team decisions. Demonstrates willingness to perform duties and functions as requested. Reports any complaints or grievances to program directors and/or Mark Miller.

Expectations

Report and clock in at 8:00 am to prepare for your day.

Be prepared to attend and participate in daily staff meetings at 8:15 am. Attend any additional staff training and/or meetings as required. Plan, implement, and evaluate lessons using Thompson’s Scope and Sequence Curriculum. Turn in monthly lesson plans on time. Create and send daily reports for each present child which include details about the day and pictures. Refrain from using your cell phone for personal reasons other than an emergency during school hours, especially while children are in your care.

Complete daily clean-up tasks and clock out at 2:15 pm.

Requirements

Candidates must be able to perform physical duties like lifting children and obtain CPR/First Aid certification. Entry-level experience is required along with the ability to maintain professional boundaries regarding cell phone use.
