About the role

Provide classroom assistance and personal care for students with physical, medical, and emotional needs. Support the lead teacher with record keeping, behavior management, and student supervision throughout the school day.

Classroom Assistance Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting or positioning (if applicable) Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative and emotional needs Work with individual student(s) or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher Supervision Help manage behavior of student(s) as needed Help supervise student(s) throughout the school day, inside and outside of the classroom, including lunchroom, bus and playground duty Record Keeping Help classroom teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports Maintain confidentiality Keep teacher informed of special needs and/or problems of student(s) What are the required qualifications?

Paraprofessionals must possess one of the following: An associate degree or higher; or Completed at least two years of postsecondary study; or The successful completion of a state or locally developed assessment.

Note

Special Education paraprofessionals must also complete at least 20 hours of staff development activities related to their assignment each school year. Willingness to go through (and pass!) the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including: four clearances, mandated reporter training, a physical and TB test, and First Aide-CPR Certification. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started. Capacity for sitting as this happens throughout the eight-hour day. Qualifications are in reference to CSPG 101 - Paraprofessional Staff.

Requirements
