About the role

The coach is responsible for recruiting student-athletes, conducting practices, and providing athletic and academic motivation. They also manage game scheduling, supervise team travel, and ensure compliance with university and league regulations.

Job summary

  • Under general supervision, club sport coaches recruit student athletes; assist in the scheduling of games, conducts practices for the assigned team, and contributes to the educational mission of the University by offering direction and instruction in the area of club sports.
  • Essential
  • DUTIES: Contributes to the educational mission of the University by coordinating the instruction of student-athletes in the sport that they have been assigned to coach. Recruits student athletes for the respective club sport program. Instructs methods and strategies; coaches student in the sport. Provides motivation, both athletic and academic, to student athletes. If needed, will assistant student leaders in scheduling practices and meets. Supervises assistant coach/coaches. Will assist students in with team travel and at times will be required to supervise players while traveling. Will work with team leaders in providing to provide the Director of the Kiernan Center with update rosters. Coordinate with team leaders the manner in which team scores will be reported to the media for home and away games. Operates the program under the rules and regulations of the university and league rules; understanding that a coach can be suspended without pay or terminated if found to be involved in rule violations. Employees are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all confidential and proprietary information (including but not limited to: student personal information, student grades, employee personal information, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. If a faculty or staff member has a question about the confidentiality of a particular matter, he/she should consult their supervisor. Any violation of this rule shall subject the faculty /staff member to disciplinary action, up to and including immediate termination of employment. Please refer to your Employee Guide for the University's complete statement on confidentiality. Review and apply all policies and procedures outlined in the university's Affirmative Action Plan. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • DESCRIPTION: % of Time 50% Instruct, teach and assist in the development of players during practices; follow and conform to league rules and regulations. 20% Actively coach team during games/scrimmages 15% Recruit players for the following year and tracts make scholarship recommendations. 10% Transports and supervise players when traveling. 5% Provide accurate data to Director of Club Sports about the team and its members.

  • ABILITIES: Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them. Ability to evaluate potential student athletes during the recruiting process. Knowledge of league rules and regulations. Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to effectively use them; Ability to read and comprehend various forms, documentation, files and information in the department. Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills. Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone. Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to be able to verify accuracy of record keeping and athletics information. Ability to handle routine office operations (typing, filing, record keeping, etc.) Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary. Ability to travel when necessary. Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business on a regular basis. QUALIFICATION STANDARDS At least one year of experience in coaching at the high school, college or higher competitive level or at least some experience in participating in the respective sport. Valid driver's license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria. Must take and pass the "American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer."

  • REQUIREMENTS: The functions of the position usually performed standing, but may require some amount of time sitting. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving instruction in fitness activities involve running, walking and lifting. Tasks involve working on a computer keyboard, typewriter, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve involves extensive wrist and hand movements. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.

Requirements

Candidates must have at least one year of coaching experience at a high school or college level or experience participating in the sport. A valid driver's license and American Red Cross CPR/AED certification are required.
