About the role

The Evening Nurse provides assessment, triage, and acute care for Upper Division students while managing health records and medications. They collaborate with parents, doctors, and school administration to coordinate care plans and promote student wellness.

Stevenson School is a PK-12 co-educational, college-preparatory boarding and day school with enrollment of 750 students on two campuses in beautiful Central Coast California.

The Upper Division campus (Grades 9-12) is located in Pebble Beach.

The Lower/Middle Divisions Campus (Grades PK-8) is in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Stevenson School is seeking an Evening Nurse to work weekdays in our Student Health Center, providing care and treatment for Upper Division students (Grades 9 through 12).

That standard weekly schedule is as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 2pm to 10pm, and Friday 1pm to 7pm.

Occasional special meetings will be required outside of typical schedule hours.

This is a full-time, 10-month/year position reporting to the Upper Division Dean of Students and located on the Pebble Beach Campus.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced LVN currently licensed to practice in the state of California, with demonstrated expertise in medical as well as social-emotional needs of this age group.

The school nurse provides appropriate intervention with actual and potential student health problems; provides case management support; and actively collaborates with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

Responsibilities

Provide assessment and on-site care for Upper Division students Triage, respond to and treat acute illnesses, injuries, and emotional concerns Initiate and provide emergency care as appropriate Coordinate care between student, MD, parents, counselors, and administration Arrange and sometimes accompany students to office or ER visits Manage and administer medication, and document in student electronic health records Maintain student health records including immunizations, vital health information, and allergies Approve and review health forms in preparation for student arrival Maintain a safe campus environment by monitoring supplies and equipment Manage health insurance enrollment for the international student body Collaborate with insurance brokers regarding medical billing and health insurance matters Establish and coordinate care plans for students who need higher levels of care Perform routine and random drug testing on students as assigned by the Dean’s office Promote student health and wellness by participating in educational programs Partner effectively with counselors, athletics, faculty and staff to support student health Possess working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to registered nursing Communicate effectively with others Leverage strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills Required Qualifications: State of California RN or LVN license; must be current as of start date Three to five years of full-time experience in a clinical setting; school based or adolescent practice experience is highly desirable Strong assessment skills and ability to apply good clinical judgment Analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt action Work collaboratively as part of a team Make independent decisions when needed Demonstrated track record of working well with adolescents Caring and positive attitude and working style Willingness to help others and proactively offer support Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast paced environment Highest standard of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality Knowledge of Google Workplace and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) Ability to maintain confidentiality A commitment to ongoing professional development Commitment to providing culturally sensitive care and support to students coming from all different backgrounds The anticipated hourly rate of pay for this position is $32 to $40 per hour, based on experience. Requirements

Candidates must hold a current California RN or LVN license and have three to five years of clinical experience. Experience with adolescents and a commitment to culturally sensitive care are highly desired.
