About the role

The Youth Development Professional facilitates structured enrichment programming for youth in grades K-12 while ensuring a safe and engaging environment. They are responsible for tracking program data, maintaining facility safety, and adhering to all licensing and organizational standards.

Job Summary

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is a front-line program staff member at a Blue Door Academy school-based site. Working up to 10 hours per week, the YDP reviews, facilitates, and delivers structured afterschool enrichment programming for youth in grades K–12 under the direct supervision of the Club/Site Director. This role is grounded in the principles of Positive Youth Development and requires a consistent, caring adult presence that creates safe, high-quality learning environments every day. Blue Door Academy YDPs are expected to arrive prepared, execute programming with fidelity, and contribute to a site culture that young people and families trust. This is not a babysitting role — it is a professional position with meaningful accountability for youth outcomes. Key Responsibilities Program Operations Supervise and lead programming meeting licensed childcare standards Work to ensure Club programming aligns with Garfield School curriculum. Ensure a safe, structured, and engaging environment that supports positive youth development outcomes. Track attendance, program participation, and member outcome data; use data to drive continuous improvement. Ensure full compliance with all applicable licensing, regulatory, and organizational standards. Maintain facility safety, cleanliness, and operability; complete daily safety checks. Safety & Compliance Implement and enforce all organizational policies, safety protocols, and emergency procedures. Serve as a Mandated Reporter; report suspected abuse or maltreatment as required by law. Maintain accurate and confidential staff and member records. Maintain DCF, BGCA and DOH standards.

Qualifications

Education Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in education, Human Services, Youth Development, or a related field preferred. Experience Minimum 1 year of professional experience in youth development, education, or human services. Experience work with small groups in PreK – Grade 5.

Preferred

  • Prior experience with Boys & Girls Clubs of America or a comparable youth-serving organization. Required Certifications & Clearances CPR/First Aid certification Criminal Background Check Child Abuse Record Information Mandated Reporter training completion prior to or within 30 days of hire. Successful completion of all required background checks, fingerprinting, and state clearances. Valid driver's license where applicable. Skills & Abilities Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and program data management tools. Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and follow-through. Cultural competence and demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging. Physical Requirements Ability to actively participate in youth activities. Ability to lift to 25 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.

Requirements

Candidates should have at least one year of professional experience in youth development, education, or human services. An associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, along with mandatory certifications such as CPR/First Aid and background clearances.
