About the role

The substitute teacher is responsible for implementing lesson plans and maintaining a safe, productive classroom environment in the absence of the regular teacher. They must supervise students throughout the school day and manage classroom behavior while upholding Catholic educational values.

Louis.Job Summary Under the direction of the Principal, the Substitute Teacher supports Assumption School and the Archdiocese of St.

Louis in fulfilling its mission of evangelizing and educating students within a Catholic learning environment.

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a positive, safe, and productive classroom in the absence of the regular teacher by implementing lesson plans, managing student behavior, and fostering an atmosphere that reflects Catholic values and academic excellence.Job Responsibilities

Implement lesson plans and classroom activities as provided by the regular classroom teacher.

Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment that promotes student learning and reflects the mission and values of Catholic education.

Supervise students throughout the school day, including during classroom instruction, recess, lunch, dismissal, and other assigned duties.

Utilize classroom technology, including interactive smart boards and other instructional tools, to support student learning.

Effectively manage classroom behavior using appropriate classroom management techniques.

Communicate professionally with school administration, faculty, staff, students, and parents as appropriate.

Maintain accurate attendance records and document any significant classroom events or concerns for the regular teacher.

Safeguard the confidentiality of student, family, and school information.

Follow all school policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or school administration Job Requirements Education and Experience

Minimum of 20 college credit hours or equivalent required. Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate preferred but not required. Successful completion of the Archdiocese of St. Louis Prevent and Protect Program prior to employment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and families.

Self-motivated, dependable, organized, and able to work independently.

Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced school environment.

Effective classroom management skills.

Working knowledge of classroom technology, including interactive smart boards and instructional software.

Ability to respond to substitute assignments by phone, text, or email as early as 5:00 a.m.

Availability to work the standard school day, generally from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on an as-needed basis.

Ability to perform supervision duties, including recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned responsibilities.

Professional demeanor with appropriate dress and appearance.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, families, and school operations.

Successful completion of required criminal history, background, and child safety screenings.
