About the role

The coach-mentor delivers safe and engaging soccer programming for students while serving as a positive role model. They assist with lesson delivery, equipment management, and fostering a supportive environment for youth development.

Position Summary

The Access4All Coach-Mentor delivers safe, engaging, and inclusive soccer programming for elementary and middle school students throughout Alexandria. The position supports school-day physical education lessons and/or after-school practices, games, and activities while serving as a positive mentor and role model. Coaches help participants build soccer skills, confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, healthy habits, and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.

Key Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Coaching & Youth Development Attend all assigned school-day and/or after-school program sessions and arrive prepared and on time.

Assist the Lead Coach in delivering engaging, age-appropriate soccer lessons, practices, games, and activities.

Actively participate in demonstrations, games, drills, and activities to encourage student engagement and enjoyment.

Help lead groups of approximately 25-45 students in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.

Build positive relationships with students by serving as a mentor and role model.

Reinforce positive behaviors through encouragement, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and respect.

Collaborate with the Site Lead, fellow coaches, school staff, and volunteers to ensure each session runs smoothly.

Assist with setting up, organizing, and storing program equipment before and after each session.

Communicate professionally with ASA staff, school personnel, students, and families.

Uphold ASA mission and values by promoting inclusion, respect, youth development, and positive community impact.

Program Details & Schedule Soccer in School: Program is for 2nd graders Approximately 1.5-hour sessions, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Follows the Alexandria City Public Schools academic calendar Coaches generally rotate to a new school every 2-3 weeks.

After School League Program is for ages 7-13 Approximately 1.5-hour sessions, Monday-Thursday between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Availability may range from 1-4 days per week.

After School League seasons generally run for approximately six weeks in the fall (September-October) and spring (April-May).

Flexible scheduling options may be available based on program needs and coach availability.

Required Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old.

Exceptional 17-year-old candidates with relevant coaching or youth development experience may be considered.

Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check provided and paid for by ASA.

Reliable transportation to assigned program locations throughout Alexandria.

Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, school staff, volunteers, students, and families.

Demonstrated enthusiasm, reliability, punctuality, professionalism, and commitment to creating positive experiences for children.

Ability to assist in leading groups of preschool-age children in a safe, engaging, patient, and structured environment.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required. All qualified candidates will be considered. Previous soccer playing, coaching, youth development, education, recreation, or athletics experience. A genuine passion for mentoring youth and supporting confidence, teamwork, healthy habits, and social-emotional development. Experience working with preschool-age children or knowledge of early childhood development. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in active indoor and outdoor school and sports environments and in varying weather conditions. Ability to stand, walk, run, bend, kneel, crouch, and actively participate in soccer activities for extended periods. Ability to set up, move, and store program equipment and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Physical Requirements: When working in the office, working conditions are normal for an office environment. The job may require the employee to function in high activity indoor and outdoor sports venues and the employee may be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances. The employee may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Why Coach with Access4All?
