About the role

The Diabetes Educator assesses client needs and provides individual or group instruction in diabetes self-management. They also provide general nutrition counseling and clinical nutrition support for rural hospitals as required.

Diabetes Educator - Diabetes Learning Center at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, Richland WA

Under the general direction of the Manager and Director assesses and evaluates clients' needs; Provides individual and group instruction in diabetes self-management based on assessed needs and clients' abilities; Counsels clients in self-care; Documents results and, performs related duties as assigned; Provides general nutrition counseling; and provides clinical nutrition support for rural hospitals as applicable.

Shift Details

• Per diem, Day Shift, 0.4 working hours weekly

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's
  • Degree: BS in Nutrition, Pharmacology, or related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • Upon hire: Washington Dietitian Certification, Or
  • Upon hire: Washington Nutritionist Certification
  • Upon hire: National CDR Registered Dietitian - Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Within 2 years of hire: Diabetes Educator Certification - National Organization
  • 2 years relevant experience, education, hours (as defined by the NCBDE) to obtain Diabetes Educator Certification (CDE) within 2 years from date of hire into the position.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1000 hours diabetic teaching experience within the past five years.

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Pharmacology, or a related field and possess relevant Washington state certifications. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required, with a preference for 1000 hours of diabetic teaching experience.
